We would be happy to celebrate your child’s birthday in the classroom with friends. Please notify us in advance on what you intend to provide so we can plan accordingly.

Dear Second Grade Families, We have been making new friends in second grade along with working very hard to adjust to the new classroom routines and curriculum. We are very excited to welcome Autumn and all the learning experiences that come with it! Within the next month we will be working on:

English Language Arts We will be completing the Fairy Tales and Tall Tales unit. We have been discussing and identifying characters, plot, setting, and the elements of Fairy Tales and Tall Tales. We will soon begin learning about Early Asian Civilizations, in which your children will learn more about life in Early Asia. They will listen to read-alouds from diverse cultures and demonstrate their understanding by answering questions that require making interpretations.

Classroom Harvest Party Parents are welcome to join us to celebrate the season! More information will follow.

Daily Reminders Children should wear uniform shirts with school’s logo and khaki or navy blue pants. -‐ Please be sure to check your child’s Homework folder daily for homework, and important notices. The homework sheet should be signed and kept in the Homework Folder every night. -‐ Please encourage your child to read to you for at least 15 minutes every evening. Every book read should be recorded onto their Reading Log, as we are trying to reach a goal of 100 books read! -‐

Math We have completed Chapter 1 on Numbers to 1,000. Your children have practiced identifying numbers and place value, making number patterns, and comparing numbers using greater than and less than, by using base-ten blocks. We will soon begin adding and subtracting to 1,000, using numbers and word problems.

We look forward to a stimulating month of learning, and getting better acquainted!
