Blanco ISD Launches App for Smart Phones App Will Allow Emergency Communications in Real Time
Blanco ISD has its own app for Smart Phones
Blanco ISD has implemented a new initiative to upgrade its emergency notification capabilities. The District has launched an app for Smart Phones that will allow users to receive real time communications in cases of emergency or other important reasons. “Last year, we did a comprehensive review of the safety and security measures we had in place,” said Superintendent Dr. Buck Ford. “One of the areas we looked at was communication. We felt we had good communication systems in place, with our website, our weekly newsletter The Bell, and our liaisons with the local newspaper and radio and TV channels.” “However, we did have some areas for improvement.” One of those areas for improvement was highlighted last year when a local power failure shut down electricity to widespread areas of South Blanco County for half a day. “Power was out everywhere,” said Ford. “There was no way our school could contact people through radio, TV, landline phones, or email.” Procedure to Load Blanco ISD App to a Smart Phone Go to the Internet on your smart phone and access the site http://BlancoISD.conduitapps.com . There you will be able to download the app. Once the app is downloaded to your phone you will be able to receive emergency notifications from Blanco ISD.
“We went ahead on and received students that morning, but our schools were without power most of the morning.” “The use of this app would have enabled us to notify parents immediately with communications about school plans in case of situations like this. We could have implemented a late start, and parents would have been able to receive the message.” Ford says at the present time, messages will be limited to emergency communications only, including communications regarding late-notice game and school program cancellations. “We respect the communications parents receive on their Smart Phones,” said Ford. “The app won’t be used for anything other than relaying information that is necessary and important.” When activated, the app will open to the District website. At the present time, the app has been uploaded to 217 phones. Instructions for downloading the app can be found on the District website at www.blancoisd.org.
