Blanco Middle School Wins District 8-AA UIL One Act Play Competition Troupe Pulls Together The Great Pandemonium for District Win

Blanco Middle School One Act Play cast, crew, and director.

Blanco Middle School, performing The Great Pandemonium by Pat Cook, captured the District 8-AA One Act Play contest for the second year in a row in competition held Wednesday at Blanco Middle School. It was a great night for Blanco, as the cast swept both Best Actor and Best Actress honors, as well as placing five on the All Star Casts. “I’m very happy, very pleased,” said director Amy Arlitt. “All four of our veterans—Colton (Elrod), Robbie (Arlitt), Payton (Savarino), and Kari (Graham)—all won awards. They’re our anchor. We’re sure going to miss them next year. They showed a lot of leadership.” The Great Pandemonium is a comedy about a tech rehearsal of Shakespeare’s Richard the Third the night before it opens, with all kinds of things going completely wrong, much to the chagrin of high school drama coach Jarred Nusthorp. Colton Elrod’s performance of the exasperated Nusthorp earned him Best Actor honors for the second year in a row. “We worked really hard for this,” said Elrod. “I think we

deserved this a lot. We owe this to Mrs. Arlitt. She stayed with us.” “We took it very seriously. I hope to do it again next year. It’s what I love to do. I worked very hard, and got Best Actor. I owe it to Mrs. Arlitt.” Seventh grader Bret Leigh Nance captured Best Actress Best Actress and Best Actor honors for her performance of Bret Leigh Nance and Colton Elrod Janet, a militaristic assistant director. “It was really Board of Trustees fun,” said Nance. “I’ve Matt Herden, President Troy Immel, Vice President never done any kind of Mary Ann Stromeyer, Secretary theatre before. I’ll conKirk Felps sider doing it next year. Charles Riley I was excited.” Bernie San Miguel Darrel Wagner

Panther Basketball Team’s Season Comes to an End

Lady Panthers End Season with Bi-District Loss to Ballinger

Panthers End Season One Game Short of Playoffs

Finish Year with 17—8 Record

Senior Clayton Green, here shooting a three-pointer vs. Harper, was a bright spot for the Panthers.

The Blanco Panthers basketball team’s season came to an end Tuesday night with a 65—57 loss to Ingram. The loss ended any chance of a post-season playoff run. However, there were good things about a campaign that saw the Panthers finish with a winning season record. “We seemed to take a step forward,” said head coach Jeff Akin. “It would have been a bigger step forward had things broken right for us on the last day of the season. As it is, though, we won 15 games. I think we gained a lot of respect from some good teams along the way.” “That last game against Ingram was a pretty good synopsis of the season. It showed how valuable Austin Carrola has been for us inside; it showed the passion of kids like Matt Pepper and Clayton Green, even when we were down; it showed the poise that Sam Isenberg displayed, that served as the glue of our team; it also showed the promise of seasons to come with big plays made by Tanner Rogers and David Ramirez.” “The team really appreciated the increased support from the student body in the last two games. The enthusiasm they showed the team really seemed to push our guys up a level or two. The hope is that the student section had a great time, and they will continue to come out and help the team out in future seasons.” “We will have to replace Austin’s scoring and Clayton’s genuine enthusiasm. Clayton made every summer league game last year. He also took underclassman David Ramirez under his wing and helped him out.” “Coach Hernandez and I are already excited about next year.”

Lady Panthers, in white, vs. Ballinger at Lampasas.

The Lady Panthers’ basketball season came to an end Tuesday night with a 66—41 loss to Ballinger in Bi-District playoff action in Lampasas. The Lady Panthers close out the season at 17—8, including representing District 8-AA as runners-up with a 6—2 record. “We had Ballinger well scouted,” said head coach Stuart Schultz. “However, they were very athletic. It was frustrating knowing what we had to do to stop them, and we still couldn’t stop them.” “Those Region I teams that don’t play volleyball are surely fundamentally sound. Last night it looked like we were three months behind.” “I am happy for the kids and the season they had. Losing Leslie McClinton really hurt our depth. I’m counting on some more young talent and athletes to help us out next year to blend in with the seasoned players we already have. Our 8th grade team has some good players that should be able to help out our depth.” “Coming into the season, I was hoping that a few players would take over the scoring load after Lacee Hunter and Alyssa Warner graduated. Micaela Klein really improved her game. Lindsey Jenkins helped out with the scoring load along with Justine Cooley and McClinton. Kayla Martinez showed that she can play at this level.” “Overall, the whole team improved and hopefully they will continue to improve. I’m expecting an even greater season next year.”
