Middle School Undergoes Air Conditioning Upgrades Bond Passage, Government Grant Funds Improvements
“Tube socks” on ceiling of Middle School gym distribute conditioned air more evenly and efficiently .
A lot of the attention and focus of the May 2011 bond passage is directed at the elementary school, as it should be. The renovation of the historical building, with an expansion of sixteen classrooms and a new cafeteria, is a milestone event. However, some of the bond money went toward improvements at the middle school, and those funds along with a government grant significantly upgraded the school’s air conditioning capabilities. Middle School Gym “It’s great!” said eighth grade student Daniel Chamblee. “It’s a lot better than last year! I love it!” The air conditioning system put in place in the middle school gym utilizes the latest technology and design elements to create a system that is both effective and efficient. “It’s a world of difference,” said Coach Scott Balmos. “It’s significantly cooler than it was last year. During hot days last year, it was about ninety degrees in the gym.” “It’s a great atmosphere for the kids. We acclimate by participating in outside activities, but we’ll also bring them inside the gym for activities also. It makes our PE program better overall.” JV volleyball coach Brandi Mumme said, “We ran a tournament here a few weeks ago, and every team was super excited when they got to the door.”
“It makes a huge difference!” Server Room A small room located in the library houses two servers and a variety of switches that runs all of the online computer systems on the middle school campus. “These servers generate a lot of heat,” said BISD Technology Director Thomas Cozzi. “Providing air conditioning to this room ensures the health of our servers. Now every server room at all three campuses is cooled.” Seven Cooling Units Receive Energy Efficiency Upgrade Blanco ISD was awarded a grant by the State Energy Conservation Office to upgrade seven cooling units that were over twenty years old. The upgrade improves energy efficiency. “These units cool various classrooms,” said Maintenance Director Tony Petri. “We Board of Trustees changed out both an air Matt Herden, President Troy Immel, Vice President handler and a condensKirk Felps, Secretary ing unit.” Tim Nance The grant covered the Charles Riley cost of the entire proBernie San Miguel Darrel Wagner ject, which cost just over $85,000. Expanded Panther Band Prepares for Marching Season 26 Eighth Graders Raise Band Number Toward 60
Panther Band practices Wednesday morning in preparation for Friday’s halftime show at Comfort .
The Blanco Panther Band has been busily preparing for upcoming marching season. “We’ve been working long hours in the heat since August 1st preparing for this,” said band director Brian Hecimovich. “We’ve exploded at the seams, adding 26 eighth graders to the band.” “Although half our band will be new marching students, the 8th grade band members have responded with lots of hard work and dedication. The upperclassmen have welcomed them with open arms.” The Band has its work cut out for it, as it prepares itself for the Region 12 marching contest, scheduled for October 13 at East Central High School in San Antonio. “This year’s show is a Latin show featuring the classic marching band Latin tune Malegueňa, which we opened with at the Canyon Lake football game,” said Hecimovich. “This week we will add a Michael Buble’ tune called Sway, and close with a rousing tune titled El Eumbanchero.” “This theme was chosen by this year’s Seniors from an arrangement of themes.” Hecimovich was quick to give credit to both the Booster Club and to assistant band director Brandon Aly. “The Band Boosters have been working especially hard outfitting all these new band students in marching and casual uniforms, as well as preparing the football concession stand (along with the football boosters). We are grateful for their continued
support!” “Mr Aly has taken on four new students to the Drumline this year, putting in many extra hours learning extra cadences and developing fundamentals for Marching Band Drumline.” “He does a lot of behind the scenes work and is a crucial part of the band program. Quite frankly, I don’t know what I would do without him!” “Our Seniors, Leadership Team, and Drum Majors have really taken control this season and shown the dedication necessary to become great!” “We have high hopes this year, and with hard work we Brian Hecimovich and Brandon Aly will make it to the top!” review performance notes during band practice Wednesday morning.
