ANNABELLE SWEATER FRAMEWORK INSTRUCTIONS (DAYS 1-2) ! We will begin by casting on a small number of sts at the neckline and as we begin knitting we will be increasing to build the rest of the neckline. To determine how many stitches will make up the neckline fill in the following blanks;
! 1. Neck circumference x neck sts ! 2.

Total neck sts x 0.33 =
Back neck sts
! 3. Back neck sts x 0.25 = Sleeve sts ! 4. 8 increase sts (this number never changes) ! 5.

Total neck sts - ( back sts + ____left sleeve sts + 8 increase sts) = front sts x 0.25 = front sts x 0.25 =
right sleeve sts + front sts
right front sts left front sts
9. (____ front sts x 0.50) + 8 = ____ center front stitches CAST ON This is on of the trickiest parts of a raglan. For the cast on you will be separating the sts into sections for the front, sleeves and back divided by your stitch markers.
!
NOTE: YOU WILL NOT BE CASTING ON ANY CENTER FRONT STITCHES AT THIS TIME, THEY WILL BE ADDED LATER.
! ! ! !

Cast on in the following order using the long tail cast in Color A;
!
1 st (to build the right front) marker A, 1 st, marker B, sleeve sts + 2, marker B, back sts + 2, marker B, sleeve sts + 2, marker B, 1 st, marker A, 1 st (to build the left front)
!
Below you will see how the neckline is separated.
ANNABELLE SWEATER FRAMEWORK INSTRUCTIONS (DAYS 2-6) After casting on, purl one row.
!
STEP 1 - Increasing the Raglan Working back and forth in stockinette stitch, increase before and after each B marker on every right side row using the knit front and back (KFB) increase.
!
AT THE SAME TIME, increase at the beginning and end of every right side row until all front right and all front left sts are added. These stitches will be marked by your A markers. The number of stitches that you have added to the right and left fronts will be the number of stitches between the A markers and the beginning (first A marker) and end (second A marker) of the row.
!
STEP 2 After you have reached your desired number of right front and left front stitches, cast on your center front stitches (equation #9) and join for working in the round. Remove both A markers, continue increasing before and after each B marker every other row. Continue in this manner until you have reached your desired raglan length.
!
STEP 3 - Separating the Sleeves From the Body On the next row, knit to first B marker, slip all sts between the first B marker and second B marker onto a stitch holder (later these sts will be worked as your sleeve), work all sts between the second and third B markers, slip all the sts between the third and fourth B markers onto a stitch holder, knit to the end of the row.

ANNABELLE SWEATER FRAMEWORK INSTRUCTIONS (DAYS 7-19) STEP 4 - Working the Body After removing the sleeves continue working the round in color A, decrease so that your total number of body stitches are a multiple of 8. Work in stockinette until you have reached your body length minus desired hem length minus 6 inches.
!
(________ body length - ______ hem length) - 6 inches = _______ inches of body to knit before beginning color work section.
!
Once you have knit to to this point you will begin working the fair isle portion of the body using the color work chart on the following page.
!
Because you will be steeking later, place the beginning of he round at the very center of the front of your sweater.
!
After you have worked all 40 rows of the color work chart, switch to color B and work your desired hem length plus 3/4 of an inch in stockinette.
!
Bind of all body stitches leaving an extra long tail to sew the hem. Fold bound off edge under 3/4” and use tail to whip stitch it to inside of the body of the sweater.

STEP 5 - Working the Sleeves Slip the sleeve sts for one sleeve onto your DPNs, PM at underarm for beginning of round.
!
Work 5 rows of 1 x 1 ribbing in color A. Bind off all stitches in pattern.
! Repeat for second sleeve. ! ! INSTRUCTIONS (DAYS 29-30) STEP 6 - Steeking Steeking is the part of this process where you will be preparing and cutting open the front of your sweater. Don’t worry, your sweater won’t unravel! If you’d like to practice first, try it on your swatch.
!
First, use a soap fabric marker to mark on your sweater where you will cut your steek, this should be a line right down the center of the front of your sweater where the there is a slight jog in the color work.
!
Next, to reinforce your steek, use a darning needle with a sticky sock weight yarn to sew up and down your sweater front in the two to three stitch columns next to your steek line.
!
ANNABELLE SWEATER FRAMEWORK STEP 6 - Steeking cont. I find it most successful when I actually spit through the yarn between the stitches with my needle for a more stable steek.
!
To cut the steek, use a very sharp pair of scissors and carefully snip each stitch along the steek line that was marked in step 1. Start at the bottom of your sweater and work to the top.
!
Luckily stitches do not have a tendency to unravel vertically so don’t worry about your sweater unravelling at this point.
!
After you cut your steek, fold back the stitches that you reinforced in step 2 and use the whip stitch to secure your facing to the body of the sweater.
!
Once you have finished securing the facing to the body of the sweater you have the option of sewing on a line of hem tape to create a nice looking edge and further secure your steek.
!
I chose to do this with a lace hem tape and matching thread. Just place the hem tape over the whip stitch edge on the inside of your sweater and sew the edges to the sweater with a sewing needle. If you sew all the way through the sweater this will add extra strength to your edge.
!
STEP 7 - Collar & Finishing Pick up and knit an odd number of stitches around neckline with RS facing using color A. Knit back and forth in 1x1 ribbing for 5 rows. Bind off all stitches in pattern. Sew 2 buttons on top right front of sweater opening over the steek. Sew the snap set on the inside of the sweater directly beneath the buttons. Sew the corresponding half of the snap on the outside of the left front opening, making sure that the halves match up and will close correctly. Weave in all ends and block.
