EMILY SWEATER FRAMEWORK INSTRUCTIONS (DAYS 1-2)

CAST ON

You will begin by casting on a small number of sts at the neckline and as you begin knitting you will be increasing to build the rest of the neckline. To determine how many stitches will make up the neckline fill in the following blanks;

This is on of the trickiest part of a raglan. For the cast on we will be separating the stitches into sections for the front, sleeves and back divided by our stitch markers.

Cast on in the following order using the long tail cast on; 1 st (to build the right front) marker A, 1 st, marker B, sleeve sts + 2, marker B, back sts + 2, marker B, sleeve sts + 2, marker B, 1 st, marker A, 1 st (to build the left front)

!

Do not cast on any center front stitches at this point.

EMILY SWEATER FRAMEWORK INSTRUCTIONS (DAYS 2-6) After casting on, purl one row.

!

STEP 1 - Increasing the Raglan Working back and forth in stockinette stitch, increase before and after each A marker on every right side row using the lifted increase.

!

AT THE SAME TIME, increase at the beginning and end of every right side row until all right front and all left front sts are added. The number of stitches you have added to the right front and left front will be marked by the B markers.

!

After all of your right front and left front stitches have been added - at the beginning of the next row cast on half of the center front sts with the placket allowance (#9), work to the end of the row and cast on the second half of the center front stitches with the placket allowance.

!

____center front sts with placket allowance x .50 = ____sts to cast on at each end of the row.

!

Remove the B markers and continue working back and forth increasing before and after each A marker on every right side row until you have reached your desired raglan length.

!

After you have reached your desired raglan length and before separating the sleeves from the body, cast on your 5 placket sts and join for working in the round.

INSTRUCTIONS (DAYS 20-28) STEP 4 - Working the Sleeves

Slip the sleeve sts onto your DPNs, PM at underarm for beginning of round.

!

For a nicely fitting tapered sleeve you will need to decrease stitches. To figure out the rate at which to decrease stitches work out the following equations. Keep in mind that generally sleeves do not fit tight to the skin so adding about 1-2" of ease would be prudent. The way you accomplish this is to simply add 1-2" to your wrist measurements before entering them into the following equations. 1. Count the sleeve stitches that are now on your DPNs _____ sts 2. _______ wrist measurement x 5.5 (stitch gauge) = _______ desired number of stitches at wrist 3. _______ picked up sleeve stitches on your needles( answer #1) - _______ desired number of stitches at wrist (answer #2) = _______Stitches to decrease before wrist 4. _______ sleeve length x _______ row gauge = _______ rows between picked up stitches and wrist 5. _______ rows between picked up stitches and wrist (answer #4) ÷ (_______ stitches to decrease before wrist ÷ 2) = _______How often to decrease for sleeve shaping. www.30daysweater.com

!

Begin working in the round in stockinette, decrease one stitch before and after the marker every _____ (answer to #5) rows. Continue in this manner until you have reached your desired sleeve length desired cuff length. 6. _______ sleeve length - _____ desired cuff length = _______ sleeve before cuff.

!

When you’ve reached your sleeve length before cuff, switch to 1 x 1 ribbing and work until you have reached your desired sleeve length (for the example sweater the cuff was extra long, 5”). Bind off all stitches in pattern

!

Repeat for second sleeve.

EMILY SWEATER FRAMEWORK INSTRUCTIONS (DAYS 29-30)

!

STEP 5 - Finishing Using your circular needle, starting at the lower left side of the henley opening pick up and knit all sts up and around the neck and down the other side of the henley opening. Place markers at the top corners of the button placket.

!

Work back and forth in 1x1 rib for 3 rows, increase 1 st at each corner marker on all RS rows.

!

Buttonholes - work up the left side of the button placket and around the neck to the right side top of the button placket. Work 2, BO 3, work 5, BO 3, work 5, BO 3, work 5, BO 3, work to end

!Next row - work in pattern until you reach bound off sts, CO 3 sts over the gap, repeat over the other 3 button holes. work in pattern to the end of row.

!

Work in 1x1 rib for another 3 rows, bind off all sts in Kitchener Rib Bind Off.

!Sew on buttons to fit through corresponding buttonholes.

! Weave in all ends and block. !
