Aspire, Persevere, Succeed Monega Primary School Home Learning Policy

Creative home learning is an exciting and creative approach to homework that allows children and parents to learn and work together and extend learning outside of the school day. At Monega:

homelearning is planned as an integral part of the curriculum, and is prepared alongside all other programmes of learning

homelearning will be set and managed effectively, and contribute to the challenge of raising attainment

the support of parents and carers is essential. They should assist in many ways, including helping their children at home, monitoring homework, providing encouragement, and even assisting with the completion of homework

effective homelearning strategies should support a range of settings in which pupils learn, for example, through parental support and guidance, through joint family learning tasks, and through independent learning

The children are supported by adults throughout, but while in their homes they are encouraged to make their own decisions The children will

receive homelearning tasks that will raise interest

link homelearning with class learning to make it easier to complete the tasks

submit homelearning promptly

The teachers will

Provide sufficient feedback, so that pupils can maintain the quality of their work

Set creative and fun homelearning tasks rather than straightforward questions to be answered

All homelearning is done in large books and is supported through homelearning classes. This approach will have the aim of significantly increasing the amount of homelearning being returned, and improve the overall quality. Pupils may be given an inspirational word, idea or object, but are not provided with any guidance. The idea behind open homelearning is that the removal of the traditional boundaries also removes the limits, and that the results can be endless.

Most of the homelearning is provided for completion over the course of a fortnight so it can be made to fit around family lifestyles and commitments.

Listen carefully in class to make sure they understand what is asked of them

Attempt to complete all their homelearning activities and for the child, parent and teacher to reflect on the task completed
