When I heard nothing from this communication, I placed a call to Anderson and the telephone information operator told me that she had no listing for such a person. Strange situation. Sometime soon, I plan to drive over there and see what I can find. Some small cities are vervcooperative with; their courthouse records and others don't want to be bothered. In any case I will keep you informed. I am enclosing some information on Whitlocks in Barbados for your records since you seemed to find that area of interest. I believe there was some arrivals into Charleston from Barbados in material that I sent to you. Mrs. Vivian Cates (Mrs. Dan B. Cates) in Alto, Texas is decended from Winfrey Whitlock Sr. 's Son James b. c. 1794 in Edgefield District, South Carolina. They lived in the vicinity of Horn's Creek Baptist Church. James married about 1821-22 to Mary _ b. c. 1800-05 d. after 1860. Do your records show this family and possibly what Mary's maiden name was? James had a brother named Winfrey Whitlock, Jr. who was born in 1831 and died before 1900. I am enclosing my cheque for $10.00 for the Whitlock Family Newsletter.
