THIS TERM… Miss Robinson, Mrs Allen, Miss Johnson. Year 6 is a very important year in your child’s education. We will be preparing pupils for SATs in May (9th-13th) and transition to secondary school next year. Literacy: We are looking at lots of different genres, particularly autobiographies, biographies and letters. Pupils will be given spellings to learn each week and English Homework will be given on Thursdays.
Maths: We will be revising multiplication and division and understanding of place value. We will also be looking at the relationship between fractions and decimals, developing understanding of properties of 2D shapes and creating and interpreting graphs. Maths homework will generally be given twice a week. Please encourage your children to use Mathletics at home.
Science: We will be studying Living Things in their Environment to include; the conditions needed for plant growth, food chains and habitats.
Computing: We will be learning how to create Spreadsheets and Scratch (a computer coding programme).
History: We will be learning about British Monarchs from 1066 to current.
Art/ Design& Technology: We will be observing and creating portraits to include self- portraits and those in the style of artists such as Modigliani and Picasso. D&T will include Cross Stitch work.
Music: The children will be learning songs from famous West End Shows.
P.E. This half term the children will be developing invasion skills in Hockey with Staff from HTC, and in the second half term lessons will be focussed Basketball. ALL children need full PE kit.
RE: We will be investigating ceremonies and rituals as well as looking closely at ‘The Gospels’
PSHCE: We will be devising our classroom charter and considering what it is that makes our school special.
We will be visiting West Boldon Lodge 21st (6J) 22nd (6R) 24th (6A). Warm clothing and sensible outdoor footwear will be needed. During October all pupils will have the opportunity to visit Thurston for a weekend with their own class.
