Home to school contact and communication Contact can be made through Home School Diaries or I can be contacted through the school phone number or by email which is often the fastest option. Phone calls will not be put through to staff during lesson time but messages will be passed on and I will call you back at the earliest convenience. Emails will be answered with 2 working days unless it is an emergency. Please email me on
[email protected] I will then pass on information to the relevant staff.
Food tech .Pupils will be following the AQA award scheme completing the Basic Food Hygiene unit. This unit is designed to improve awareness of safe food handling, preparation and storage of food which could also be practiced at home. Art This term the group will be using clay to make and design models and will be using a variety of tools to support this.

Those completing the Rookie lifeguard course will complete this every Monday and will need their swimming kit, a separate letter will be sent out about this.
Students continue to work towards their humanities short course. They will be working this half term on a Geography module which is based around holidays. Students will be asked to plan a trip for their class to visit the UK’s four capital cities. They will need to cost the trip, plan visits to attractions and produce a detailed plan including locations, times and costings. This will include working collaboratively with peers and using ICT to conduct internet research.

Practical arrangements PE is on a Tuesday afternoon– weather appropriate PE kit and shower kit are needed each week. Swimming will be part of PE this half term and those completing sessions will be informed in a separate letter.

Home learning opportunities Homework will be given on a weekly basis and the quantity will depend upon the level that pupils are working at. Revision work will also be completed during exam periods. Dates of these will be provided in advance.

Enrichment activities Currently we have a number of enrichment clubs on a lunch time. These include: Lego club, Craft club, Girls sport, Football, Basketball, Table Cricket, Boccia, ICT club, Signing club, guitar club and chess club.

This term we will be completing a module based on our Rights and Responsibilities. We will be focussing upon the UN Rights of the Child and will be discussing what our rights and responsibilities are and how these differ from other cultures and countries around the world.

Maths This term we will be working on the use of number. Focussing on the four main operations, place value, and problem solving. There will be a focus upon the use of reasoning and problem solving, with pupils completing functional maths projects to generalise their skills. Pupils will complete work in small groups and will work on speaking and listening skills as well as having a focus on vocabulary. Homework will be given once a week and pupils will be working with the Numeracy Ninja’s program of mental maths work. English This half term pupils will be completing work based around the topic of ‘All About Me.’ Pupils will be completing a range of writing and speaking and listening projects based around themselves and their interests and this will culminate in them completing the speaking and listening exams at Christmas. Pupils will also be working on the use of punctuation and grammar, using drafting techniques to further their written work, with a focus upon the use of adjectives, connectives and using a range of punctuation effectively. During the half term there will be a number of home tasks to complete, your support with these will be greatly appreciated to further pupils work. Science Students will be learning why it is important to work as part of a team. In the scientific community different professionals come together in order to move scientific theory forward. The students will examine the importance of gaining different perspectives in order to complete collaborative work. They will research in teams and listen to each other’s point of views, while also completing group tasks which rely on them working together. The students will complete a range of experiments where they will all of different responsibilities.
