What’s new in school this week … Thank you to all the parents who have discovered our facebook page. We are officially launching this on 12 May 2015 when we launch our new website. We will however be adding a few posts to the facebook page prior to this so please have a look and keep updated with school news! This week in school we have launched our new behaviour system in Foundation and Key Stage One, next week it will be introduced to the children in Key Stage Two. The system works using 3 cards which encourage children to remain on a green card throughout the day focusing on ‘It’s Good to be Green’. In the classroom the children will receive a verbal warning before they are moved to a yellow card and there will be another verbal warning issued before they move to a red card. We are encouraging children to sit on chairs sensibly, put up their hands to answer a question or ask for something and show good manners to everyone. Children are receiving Dojo’s for great respect and for displaying the seven Super Learning Powers. The children are really enjoying getting Dojo’s with a great element of competition in the classroom. We will be informing you of the detail of these new systems in the coming weeks as we update our behaviour policy and gather parent views. We are asking parents to talk to their children about these two systems we are using, please let us know your thoughts. In school there is a big focus on how we show respect. We have asked parents and children questions using our new towers, here are the results! Children’s Question Should you respect some people more than others? 300 children voted Yes No Sometimes Never 30% 25% 28% 17%
Parent Response The school encourages children to show respect to adults and other children Yes No Sometimes Never 82% 2% 14% 2%
We will be following up in assembly how children may have different views on this topic. How would we like parents to be involved in school? Your involvement in your child’s learning is very important to us at Balby Central and we are always looking for ways to develop and improve this. We will be sending out a flyer for you to complete telling us ways in which you would like to be involved in the life of the school. Next half term will be our big focus and there will be lots of opportunities for you to engage with us. To make sure these opportunities suit your needs we would also love to hear of any suggestions you have and any requests. What has happened in school this week?
