LAST REVISED: 11.2.2016
Game Action and Fouls NCAA basketball rules will be in effect with the following exceptions: o o o o o
No 5 second closely guarded calls No 3 seconds in the lane calls No shot clock 10 second half-court rule will be in effect There will be no additional emphasis on hand-checking in intramural play. All fouls will be called with deference to the advantage/disadvantage test (i.e. Player A places his hand on Player B’s hip but does not use any leverage to gain an advantage in defending Player B)
Block/Charge Distinctions: Defenders who are not the primary defender of the ball handler can no longer slide in and draw a charge. The NCAA has changed this rule. If a player slides in late creating contact the referee has the judgement to either call a blocking foul on the defender OR not make a call judging that the defender did not gain an advantage or put the offensive player at a disadvantage.
Personal Fouls A player will be allowed five personal fouls. After receiving the fifth foul, a player is disqualified from the game. Technical fouls will count as personal fouls. Two technical fouls will result in an automatic ejection. Dunking during warm-ups or during a game will result in the following: o o
Automatic ejection of the player who dunked/attempted to dunk 2 technical free throws will be awarded to the opposing team. If the act occurred during pre-game warm-ups/half-time warm-ups, the free throws will be shot before time starts to run. The player who dunked will be ejected and not permitted to participate in the game. The team shooting the free throws will be awarded the ball out of bounds and the possession arrow will be in favor of the team who committed the infraction.

Team Fouls When a team commits its seventh personal foul in a half, the opposing team will be in the bonus situation. The result of this will be the awarding of a one-and-one free throw opportunity for each foul that is committed, excluding shooting fouls (two shots) and offensive fouls. Once a team reaches a tenth foul in a half, the opposing team will shoot 2 free throws for the remainder of the half. Team foul totals from the second half carry over into any overtime period needed. Technical Fouls Any foul called by a referee for a violation or breach in etiquette of the game is a technical foul. All technical fouls will result in 2 free throws and possession for the opposing team. Technical fouls can be called for unsportsmanlike conduct, having too many players on the court during play, dunking, etc. Teams that accumulate 3 technical fouls in one game will forfeit that game and may be subject to suspension for the remainder of the regular season. Any instance of profanity warrants a technical foul. Intentional Fouls Any foul committed that is a result of not trying to defend or play the ball, but rather is solely meant to target an opponent or stop him/her from scoring is an intentional foul. All intentional fouls will result in 2 free throws for the opposing team and possession of the ball once the free throws have been shot. Flagrant Fouls Any foul that is reckless/dangerous in nature and/or is committed intentionally and puts another player at risk for injury will result in an immediate ejection of the player who committed the foul. The team that is fouled will shoot 2 free throws and will retain the basketball. Players ejected for committing a flagrant foul will be suspended from participating in any intramural activity until he or she meets with the Director of Student Experience and completes any necessary sanctions required for reinstatement.
