Berewood Primary School Kentidge Way Waterlooville Hampshire

Berewood Bulletin Head teacher up-date Dear Parents and Carers We are already more than three weeks into the new school year, and there is much to celebrate and enjoy. It has been a pleasure to welcome back the children of Berewood, and to begin to get to know our new pupils in the reception class and across the school. When we all come together in the hall for lunchtime or an assembly, it is quite clear that there has been a big jump in numbers, having grown by over 50 children since July. I hope that you found the Curriculum meetings over the last couple of weeks very useful, and that you now have a clearer picture of the work your child will be doing this term and how you can help them. As a school we are trying to be as available to our parents as we all try to ensure that their progress in learning is strong and their health and well-being is secured. If you have any concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact us– the class teachers are often busy at the beginning of the day, but if you leave a message at the office they, or I, will be in touch as quickly as possible. My door too is always open, and as you have already seen, I try to be available by the front gate as often as possible. We will all be sad next week when Mrs Merriam leaves us, and I know that you, like us, will send our fond best wishes to her. At the same time I thank you for your kind welcome to all our new staff, making them feel part of the Berewood family from the start. I am looking forward to a wonderful year at Berewood, and hope that you too are enjoying our Journey to Excellence.

We are sending home some information about the way in which the school manages personal information about our children., known as privacy notices. This information is generally sent home each year, and more information is available from the school in our Data Protection policy. If you would like any further information, please contact the school or speak to Mrs Patrick.
Road Safety and the School Travel Plan Key Stage 1 visit With our increased numbers has come an increase in traffic coming to school and therefore a need for us all to be more careful in our choices about the speed we drive at and the places we park. Please may I remind you that the speed limit is currently set at 10mph due to the construction traffic, the increased mud on the roads and the narrowing of roads due to the bollards placed around the different building sites.
Oak and Ash class spent a very happy day at Arundel Castle…
I also respectfully remind drivers that the staff car park should not be used for collection and drop off, unless the school has agreed due to special circumstances. The disabled bays must be kept clear for use only if a disabled sticker is in place. No car should stop on the zig-zags as this is illegal and highly dangerous. There is a bay to pull in further along Kentidge Way and space to pull in around the corner. Please be aware that we are still a small school and that we will have much more traffic to manage over the coming years. If we establish a safe and sensible approach to parking and driving near school at this time, then as we more than double in size over the next few years we will have created a happy and safe environment for all our children as they enter and leave the building.

Attendance Matters!
Governor News
With the new term has come a fresh start for attendance. However at this time of year we know that there are often bugs and viruses around which need children to take some time off. Please also be aware that we are following Hampshire Policy and in line with other local schools fixed penalty notices may be used for periods of unauthorized absence. For more guidance please see the In-
Our Governing Body will meet for the first time in committees this year, with a Standards and Curriculum committee and a Finance and Resources committee, as well as their termly full Governing Body meetings. Mr Mike Overal and Mr Jason Vigus are your parent governors, and I know they would wish to be available to you if you would like to discuss any matters with them.
