BETWEEN THE HORNS RAM Nation | October 2017
Coach’s Corner—Coach Chow Howdy Rams! I hope you and your families are all doing well and have had an amazing start to the school year. It’s been a whirlwind start with everything that’s gone on in the city this past month, and I’ve watched the city come together as a whole and watched my team come together to help their teammates and others in the community. Our season is about to begin and I’m excited to tell you a bit about myself and my team, how far we’ve come, and our plan to keep on going! As a head coach, this will be my 5th year head coaching the Cy Ridge Swim Team. Before I began my coaching stretch at Cy Ridge, I coached at multiple USA swim teams (Team Yes!, Aggie Swim Club, Alief Aquatic Club) as well as head coached and currently head coach for a couple of summer league swim teams (College Station Tsunamis and Lakes on Eldridge Dolphins). Coaching has been an exciting branch off for me as I grew up swimming competitively for about 15 years in both the club and high school settings. I actually swam for Cy Falls High School! In regards to my personal life, I am a die-hard Aggie as I received both my undergraduate and my Master’s from Texas A&M University. I majored in Special Education and am currently also pursuing my doctorate in Special Populations through the University of Houston. When I started coaching at Ridge, the team had a little over thirty swimmers and as the years have progressed, the program is close to seventy swimmers and has shown incredible growth and development. As a team, we’ve worked extremely hard to have swimmers that have competed at the state level, qualified for regionals every year, and last season, our boys’ team won the 200 Medley Relay for the first time in school history. In addition, academically, we have always had over 40% of both genders get honor roll every grading period! I am extremely proud to say that I may not have kids of my own, but I have 60 or more kids that continue to make me proud all the time. We are a family and we run on the thought process that if someone says we can’t then we’ll prove them wrong. As our season begins, I encourage all of you to come stop by and see a few races. Swimming is a completely different beast than most sports and I would love to share all the hard work my kids have been putting in! My assistant, Chad Lanham and I are looking forward to another competitive season and would love to see you all there to experience the wonderfulness and chaos that is the swim team! Coach Chow

What is CRABC? CRABC stands for Cy-Ridge Athletic Booster Club. It is a booster club created to support ALL athletes. Our goal is the betterment of ALL athletic departments along with providing two scholarships to our athletes. Each sport incurs costs for their equipment, repairs, banquets, tournament entry fees, and much more. In addition to these costs, we have maintenance on equipment, new equipment needs, training equipment and changing technology needs. We strive each year to help cover as much of those costs as possible.
