We encourage all youth interested in working toward their faith’s religious emblem to attend. Roman Catholic Scouts and Venturers will have the opportunity to work on the following: Scouts, ages 13 and 14 will work on the Ad Altare Dei Program. Scouts in High School (9-19 grade) will work on the Pope Pius XII Program. “A Scout is Reverent.” For more information, please contact Tom Hoogland (708)474/6212 or (219)836/1720 at the Council Office. Bingo makes many if not most of our activities operate. For example: The bingo money is allowing the troop to pick up 100% of the Cabin Fee in February. Anyone interested in becoming the Bingo coordinator, please contact Jim Fox.

ATOMIC ENERGY MERIT BADGE OFFERED! An atomic energy merit class for Boy Scouts will be offered on February 19, 2005. The open house and other activities will be held on February 26, 2005. The open house and the merit badge program are free. The merit badge class will run from 7:30 am to 12:15. Pm. Scouts will need to be “blue cards” and a copy of the merit badge book with them. For more information and to register, send e-mail to [email protected]. The location is the IIT Rice Campus in Wheaton at 201 East Loop Road.

New Troop neckerchiefs will soon be ordered. Each Scout will reveive a new neckerchief, Adult Leaders will be asked to pay $7.75. Votes have been tabulated but please feel free to let your opinions be known. The three versions are shown to the left. Please contact Jim Fox if you would would like to vote. The final decision will be made after the January 13th Troop Meeting.

Troop Committee Meeting Minutes January 5, 2005 Robert Davidson Center Meeting called to order @ 7:30 PM -- Present -- Jim Fox, Garry Polodna, Jerry Stechmiller, Roger Sandoval, Barry Diamond, Mike Kenny, SR., and Mike Kenny, Jr – SPL Committee Reports: • Reviewed Troop Committee positions. Jim Fox suggested creating the following positions – Secretary, Chaplain/Religious Coordinator, Training Coordinator, and Equipment Coordinator. • Jerry Stechmiller accepted the position of Troop Equipment Coordinator. Jerry will review the status of new and existing troop equipment, troop equipment needs, new procedures for safe use and storage of equipment. • John Hanley accepted the Secretary position. John will primarily handle the Troop newsletter. Please send John any information you have for the newsletter. He will try and distribute each month’s newsletter after the monthly parents meeting. • Troop e-mail addresses will be maintained by Marty Nachel and Jim Fox – if your e-mail address changes please send a note to either Marty or Jim. If you need to send a message to the troop – send the message to Marty or Jim and they will forward the message to the Troop. • Committee and/or position openings – Merit Badge Coordinator, Life to Eagle Coordinator, Chaplain/Religious Coordinator, Den Chief’s Coordinator, High Adventure Coordinator, Recruitment Coordinator, Round Table Representative, Training Coordinator. If you are interested in any of the above positions, please contact Jim Fox. Old Business: • Mike and Mike Kenny attending the recent Calumet Council Summer camp conference. A worksheet was presented detailing camp activates at: Ransburg, Owasippee, Canyon/Lowden, Loud Thunder, Rainbow, Lakota/Berry. There was discussion on which camps we should visit and consider attending in 2006. We need to make a decision soon. • Neckerchief samples have been distributed and votes are being tabulated. We will order new neckerchiefs shortly. We plan on ordering 200 neckerchiefs – each registered scouts will receive a new neckerchief – adult leaders are asked to pay the $7.75 cost of the new neckerchief. New Business: • Barry Diamond presented information on a local Kiwanis camp. He suggested that the troop look into using the facility. He believes the camp is somewhere in the Lansing, IL area. Anyone who has additional information is asked to contact Barry or the Camping Committee. • Mike Kenny, SPL – suggested having a Troop meeting at the outdoor skating area at Centennial Park. Other ideas included in-door Golf, Soccer, etc. – More information will follow. • There was discussion about schools not being available on days that school is cancelled because of heavy snow accumulation. We are considering canceling troop meetings if school has been cancelled because of the weather. More will follow. • There was discussion about creating a Troop Web Site. Anyone interested in helping with this project should contact Jim Fox. • There was discussion about improving the way in which scouts completing rank advancement and merit badge requirements can submit them to the Advancement chairman. Having an Advancement box at troop meetings is being considered.
