Lottie Moon

Died: December 24, 1912 (72)

The Moon family valued education and Lottie went to a Baptistaffiliated Female Seminary. Moon received one of the first Master of Arts degrees received by a woman. She spoke several foreign languages. Lottie underwent a spiritual awakening at the age of 18. On July 7, 1873, the Foreign Mission Board officially appointed Lottie as a missionary to China. She was 33 years old. Throughout her missionary career, Moon faced plague, famine, revolution and war. She was struck by the starving people around her and she shared her finances and food and in 1912, she only weighed 50 lbs. Alarmed, fellow missionaries arranged for her to be sent back home to the US, however; Moon died in route on December 24. Please pray about how much the Lord would have you give to the Merry Christmas!

In the Winter Quarter, beginning January 6, 2015, four more classes will be offered. I will list the complete schedule later in this article, but first let me give a “shameless” advertisement for the class I will teach. It is entitled “Principles of Christian Finance 102.” In the pastorate I held prior to coming to Brushy Mountain Baptist Association five years ago, Wanda and I helped teach over 100 couples God’s principles of Christian finance using Crown Financial Ministries material. We began the classes just before the economic meltdown of 2008 and many families avoided financial disaster by applying the principles taught in this material. The class I will teach is comparable to what we taught in Mooresville and will be a great help to pastors, staff, and laypersons alike. The objective is to provide a comprehensive program to train people to apply the financial principles from the Bible. Yes, I am teaching the class but that is not the only reason I want you to join me. The true reason is that the principles are life changing when it comes to your financial life. I appeal to you to register with Fruitland and enroll in this class. It will help you know how to develop a spending and savings plan, move toward being financially free, learn how and when to use credit, and how to understand God’s principles of stewardship. I urge you to consider taking this class for the benefit of your family and ministry. I will not teach this course like a typical academic class per se, but will make it very applicable to your personal situation. So join me on Thursday nights from 8 until 10 pm beginning January 8, 2015 at 400 Winston Street in Wilkesboro.

I am reminded of what Paul wrote to the church in Philipi. “I think my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.” (Philippians 1:3-5).

Millers Creek, Mt. Zion Greetings from the h.o.p.e. Center:

As Paul writes the letter of Philippians to the church in Philipi, he is writing to a group of people that he cares greatly about. Most of what these people know about the gospel and following Jesus is a direct result of Paul’s ministry in their city. Now, the Philippians are propelling Paul forward in his faith and ministry through their “partnership in the gospel.” This probably included encouragement, prayer, financial support for Paul, and most certainly a faithfulness in sharing the good news of Jesus with others. As Paul prays, his heart is moved by intense joy over what God is doing through his friends in Philipi and the impact they are having in his life and ministry. As I thank of your support, I have the same feelings that
