Hatch Lane is one the three wards in the borough with the smallest numbers of employee jobs (900). This is 1.7% of all the jobs in the borough (53,000). The other two wards with the same number of jobs are Grove Green and Cann Hall.

2010 Indices of Multiple Deprivation data from the DCLG shows that Waltham Forest has declined from 26th to 15th position among the most deprived local authorities in England between 2007 and 2010.



Hatch Lane has quite diverse neighbourhoods in terms of deprivation. Four out of seven neighbourhoods are among the 20% of most deprived, while two output areas are among 50% least deprived in England (see the map).
