17th February 2017 Dear Parent / Carer, As I am sure you are fully aware, GCSE season will soon be upon us. Many pupils in both years 10 & 11 have shared with their tutors and class teachers their feelings of anxiety around the GCSE season. With this in mind, I have organised for a local 'Mindfulness' instructor to come in to school to work with a group of pupils. Mindfulness is a step-by-step process of training your mind to pay more attention to your thoughts and feelings, rather than being swept away by them. The aim is to help pupils respond to stressful situations more objectively and cultivate a positive mind set. Mindfulness has been shown to alter the structure and function of the brain, improving the quality of our thoughts, feelings and our consideration for others; as well as making us feel calmer, less anxious and less depressed; helping to improve our learning, performance and general wellbeing. The session will run on Monday 6th March between 3.15- 4.45pm, with potential sessions to take place following this first launch if pupils feel it is beneficial. There will be a small charge for the event to cover travel costs for the instructor (£3 approximately depending on levels of interest) to paid via ParentPay. Please could you complete the attached form to register if your child is interested. If enough pupils want to take part in the event, I will confirm final cost and timings closer to the date.
