May is a time of celebration. We come to the end of the academic year in school. Graduations are held for high school students and college students. We stop on the second Sunday in May to recognize and celebrate our mothers. In the church we have just experienced the most important celebration. We have just completed the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In our celebration of our graduations we are marking an accomplishment of completion. The completion also marks the beginning of another era in our lives. For a lot of high school seniors graduation means that we have less than three months until college starts. For college students it means that the job search has begun in earnest. For our mothers we hope the celebration is just the beginning of our recognition of some of what they have done for us throughout all of our years. In our Christian life we celebrate when someone comes to know Christ as their Savior. That celebration also marks the beginning of a life. It is not the end but the beginning. It is the beginning of a life long relationship with the one who died for each of us. As you think of all the celebrations, my prayer is that you will mark the celebration by beginning a new life in Christ. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come” 2 Cor. 5:17 Pastor Steve
