Dear Second Grade Parents, Thank you to all the volunteers last week that helped make our Halloween party a success! The students really enjoyed themselves. Also, I want to thank all the parents that donated items to our party, as well! I appreciate all your help! This week the students will be wrapping up chapter 6 in Religion. There will be a test on Thursday. Please make sure to spend some time rereading the chapter with your child, along with having him/her study the flashcards on Engrade. Also, we have been practicing the Act of Contrition in school to prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Please make sure your child is saying it at home, as well. The students will need to have this prayer memorized by December 2nd. In Spelling the students will begin learning a new list of words. These words have the silent magnetic “e.” The students will review words that have a long vowel, consonant, silent “e” pattern. This concept is a little tricky, so please make sure to have your child study these words extra hard this week. In Reading the students will begin a new book on Tuesday, The Ninth Life. We will focus on diphthongs this week. Please make sure your child is completing his/her reading log nightly. There will be a quiz on Mascot’s Message on Wednesday. In English the students will finish their final draft of their personal narrative stories. Also, we have begun our next unit on nouns. In Handwriting we will finish the last few letters of the manuscript alphabet in the upcoming weeks and soon start cursive! In Math the students will work on comparing numbers this week, using the greater than, less than, and equal to signs. Also, we will continue to

work on numbers through 100, both spelling them and writing them. We will switch to Science for the next few weeks and begin our next chapter. This Thursday the students will have a half day due to conferences. If you forgot your time for conferences, please message me through Engrade and I will give you the time again. It’s important to be on time and understand that each conference is only ten minutes long. It’s important that we keep to that so that everybody stays on schedule. If you feel that you need more time, we can schedule another conference at a later date. I look forward to sitting down with your child and you to discuss his or her performance this past quarter. Also, please remember that it’s important that your child is continuing to study the basic addition facts. We will continue the quizzes weekly throughout the school year. The number of problems will increase soon. This week the students will be tested on the 7’s and 8’s. Lastly, Scholastic book orders are due by this Friday. You may do your ordering through the Scholastic website.
