KEEP FALLS OUT OF FALL FESTIVALS Fall festivals, costumes, and decorations make this season more fun. Unfortunately, costumes and decorations can create additional fall risks for students and staff. Check out the tips below to keep your fall festivals from falling flat!

Costumes: Kids and adults alike enjoy dressing up this time of year. But wearing unfamiliar footwear or clothing that may drag the ground or create a visual obstruction can lead to falls. Make sure your staff are mindful of these risks and use caution when dressing up.

Decorations: Employees often misuse stepstools and ladders or stand on chairs to decorate school buildings. Let staff know the locations of appropriate stepstools and ladders, and remind them that it is never acceptable to stand on a chair. Some seasonal decorations may require electricity. Extension cords can pose a number of risks, including trip hazards, so make sure you know the do’s and don’ts of using them.
