SH130
Keep Up With Lane Closures
SH 130 Construction Update Construction is mostly evident along the entire length of SH 130 to IH 10. Significant progress is being made at the interchange with SH 130 on the overpass bridges. Beam erection is expected to begin sometime in April. At Plum Creek, a third of the bridge deck has been poured for Bridge 25, with the next third soon to follow. One third of Bridge 24 will be poured in the upcoming days.
Your safety is SH 130 Concession Company’s goal. While construction is taking place, there will continue to be lane closures, and we want you to be prepared for those areas where work is taking place. Beams have been set on Bridge 54 at FM 621, and columns are going up at Clear Fork Creek. At IH 10, all traffic has been moved over to the old existing Eastbound lanes, so work can begin in the area of the Westbound lanes.
Transportation Trivia
The majority of work on the drainage structures is underway, with the large culverts almost all installed. Utilities are working up and down US 183, with more work starting further South in the upcoming weeks. Major earth moving operations have begun from CR 217 to UPRR #1 West of Lockhart, as well as on either side of CR 242 and South of FM 20.

A Caterpillar 777 Dump Truck is moving dirt at the intersection of SH 130 and CR 242 Bylerpool road. This machine can carry 100 tons of material.
Work is being done from FM 20, looking South.

Mentor Protégé Program Central Texas Highway Constructors has selected 17 firms to participate in the Small Business Mentor Protégé Program. Through this business mentoring program, local eligible SBE, HUB and DBE firms have the opportunity to enhance their business skills and growth potential by learning standard construction business practices, receiving mentoring and networking with project staff. As Protégés, these firms receive information, tools and resources from Mentors who are subject matter experts in their field and are dedicated to sharing their expertise and guidance in various areas of business, such as estimating, project administration and contract management. Recent Protégé course topics have included Safety, Insurance & Bonding and Bids & Proposals. graduation is scheduled for August 2010.

Jill Shackelford - President, Industrial Asphalt, Inc. Jill Shackelford is a 1993 graduate of Texas Tech University with a BBA in Management. Joe Jackson and Jill founded Industrial Asphalt, Inc. in 1995 and have recently opened their second asphalt plant.
Currently providing asphalt, flex base and backfill material to the project is Industrial Asphalt, Inc/KBDJ, a small family-owned limestone quarry and asphalt producing plant in Hays County, Texas. Industrial provides crushed stone, hot mix asphalt and services that include paving, asphalt patching, pavement markings, seal coating and more. They produce approximately 700,000 tons of material annually. As an environmentally conscious firm, Industrial Asphalt/KBDJ is committed to producing quality materials for road construction while protecting the environment and conserving natural resources. The firm was certified as a wildlife habitat conservation site in 2008.
Limestone Quarry
Working with local elementary schools to host environmental education activities at the quarry site also earned Industrial Asphalt/KBDJ certification as a Corporate Lands for Learning program in 2009 by the Wildlife Habitat Council.
