Corvias ECAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week (for week ending August 31, 2014)

Women’s Soccer: Division I:   Offensive Player of the Week Vanessa Skrumbis - Georgetown, Senior, Forward, Encino, Calif.   Skrumbis fueled Georgetown’s high-scoring offense this week with a combined four goals and one assist over two games. The senior forward scored two goals and one assist in a win over NC State and then knocked in two more in a triumph over Towson.  Defensive Player of the Week Kristyn Shea - Providence, Sophomore, Goalie,  Piscataway, N.J. Shea paced the Friars to an unbeaten (1-0-1) week by yielding just one goal in over 207 minutes played in between the pipes. The sophomore goalkeeper stopped seven shots in a 0-0 double-overtime draw against Northeastern on Thursday, including one in OT. She followed that up with five more saves, including one in the extra period, in a 1-0 overtime win against Massachusetts on Sunday.   Rookie of the Week Lisa Nanov - UMBC, Freshman, Forward, Mechanicsburg, Pa. Nanov found the back of the net twice in UMBC's comeback 3-2 win over Loyola on Aug. 25. The freshman tallied her first-career goal in the 54th minute against the Greyhounds, then scored the game-winner in the 81st minute.

Corvias ECAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week (for week ending August 31, 2014) - ECAC Sports Division III New England Offensive Player of the Week   Maggie Cohoon - Rivier, Sophomore, Forward, Derry, N.H. Cohoon was named MVP of the Husson University Classic after scoring four goals and dishing out two assists in two Raider victories. She recorded a hat trick and two assists in Rivier’s 5-1 tournament opening win over UMaine-Presque Isle. Cohoon followed that up with a game-winning goal against Husson, to help lead Rivier to a 1-0 win and the tournament title. Defensive Player of the Week   Caroline Mols – New England College, Junior, Midfielder, Verona, N.J. Mols led a Pilgrim defense that captured two shutout victories this weekend, including a 2-0 victory over Alfred State College on Saturday and a 3-0 victory over Alfred University on Sunday. The junior midfielder anchored a defense that held Alfred State to seven shots on goal, a team that averaged 10.6 shots on goal per game in 2013. Mols and the backline held Alfred University to just two shots on goal on Sunday. Rookie of the Week   Amanda Brux -  Norwich, Freshman, Forward, Dousman, Wisc. Brux was extremely clutch in helping Norwich to a 2-0 opening weekend. The freshman forward scored the game-tying goal with one minute and 26 seconds left in regulation and then added the game-winning goal with just under four minutes to play in double-overtime to lift Norwich to a 21 victory over Lyndon State. Brux followed that up with another goal in Norwich’s 2-0 win over Johnson State on Saturday. Division III Metro   Offensive Player of the Week Sarah Corson – Rutgers-Newark, Junior, Forward, Metuchen, N.J. Corson racked up nine points in a pair of season-opening wins for the Scarlet Raiders during the Michelle Vargas-Robin Memorial Tournament hosted by SUNY New Paltz. She opened the season by scoring a pair of goals, including the game-winner with just 16 seconds remaining in Newark’s season-opening 2-1 victory over Skidmore. One day later, she tallied five points with two goals and an assist in a 5-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill.   Defensive Player of the Week Jordan Downs –The College of New Jersey, Senior, Defender, Brick, N.J. Downs earns ECAC honors after helping the No. 10 ranked Lions secure a season-opening 10-0 victory over Cedar Crest. The senior anchored a defense that did not allow a single Cedar Crest shot in the victory.   Rookie of the Week Laura Bustamante, New Jersey City University, Freshman, Forward, Rockaway, N.J. Bustamante recorded three points over a 1-0-1 opening weekend of play for the Gothic Knights at the College of Staten Island Fall Classic. The freshman newcomer assisted on a goal during NJCU’s season-opening 3-0 win over John Jay. One day later, she found the back of the net in the 59th minute of a 1-1 draw with host Staten Island.     Division III Upstate:   Offensive Player of the Week Elizabeth May, Rochester Institute of Technology, Jr., MF, Pittsford, NY May helped the No. 21 RIT women's soccer team to a pair of wins last weekend at the Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament hosted by RIT. On Friday, May had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over No. 25 SUNY Oneonta. May had the service on a corner kick in the 18th minute to Quincey Ornellas. She made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute on her first goal of the season.   Defensive Player of the Week Amanda Murray, Rochester Institute of Technology, Sr., GK, Denville, NJ Murray posted a pair of shutout wins for the No. 21 RIT women's soccer team last weekend at the Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament hosted by RIT. She made three saves in a 2-0 win over No. 25 SUNY Oneonta on Friday. Murray followed that up with five saves and a second shutout in a 10 win versus Allegheny Saturday. Murray now has 22 wins in her career at RIT. Rookie of the Week: Kaleigh Foran, SUNY Canton, Fr. MF, Fort Ann, NY Foran had a phenomenal opening weekend posting seven points on two goals and three assists in her first two collegiate games as the Roos went 2-0. The freshman scored once and assisted three other goals in a 6-1 victory against Paul Smith's College on Saturday. She followed that up with another assist in a 4-0 win vs. Vermont Tech on Sunday.   Division III South:

Corvias ECAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week (for week ending August 31, 2014) - ECAC Sports   Offensive Player of the Week Savina Reid, Carnegie Mellon University, Sr. F, Briarcliff, NY Sophomore midfielder Savina Reid scored two goals in each of two Carnegie Mellon University wins, including a 2-1 victory over top-ranked William Smith College at the Gettysburg College Cup. She put the Tartans up 1-0 in the 16th minute and then scored the game-winner in the 66th minute, four minutes after the Herons tied the score. Reid also netted two goals in the first 39 minutes as the Tartans jumped to a 7-0 first-half lead in an 8-0 win over Gustavus Adolphus College. Defensive Player of the Week Ciara Scott, Waynesburg University, Jr., GK, Pittsburgh, PA Scott allowed just two goals in a pair of wins over Defiance and Heidelberg to open the 2014 season.   Rookie of the Week Nikki Davis, Waynesburg University, Fr.  Davis scored two goals on a pair of corner kicks in a 3-1 win over Defiance to open the 2014 season.
