The Workshops
18 April - Workshop 1: Creative Embroidery Hoop Jewellery with Ame Verso
19 April - Workshop 2: Introduction to Ribbon Embroidery with Sophie Long
19 April - Workshop 3: Stitch Baby Gifts Using Soluble Canvas with Hannah Sturrock
Ame Verso is the daughter of legendary cross stitch designer Jo Verso, who throughout the 1980s and 90s sold over three-quarters of a million cross stitch books. Ame learned to stitch at the age of 10, even stitching some of the pieces in her mother’s books, and every milestone of her life has been recorded in cross stitch. Ame is editor-in-chief of the SewandSo blog, and face of the YouTube channel SewandSoTV.
Sophie Long graduated from the Royal School of Needlework in 2008, having mastered more than 30 hand embroidery techniques including silk shading and goldwork. Sophie’s passion and undeniable talent for embroidery is displayed through her original works and classes for the RSN and others. Sophie’s big moment came when she was invited to be one of the team that worked on Kate Middleton’s wedding dress!
Hannah Sturrock is the founder of contemporary cross stitch kit company Bobo Stitch and the author of Modern Cross Stitch. Hannah’s designs are characterized by simple outlines with striking patterns and clean, fresh colours. Taking inspiration from interiors, vintage textiles, nature and toys, Bobo Stitch is contemporary and stylish, with an emphasis on creating gorgeous things to give as gifts or to show off in your home.
In this creative workshop you’ll be given access to gorgeous miniature embroidery hoops in which to mount whatever stitching you like, and plenty of motifs to cross stitch or embroider (or feel free to freestyle it!). These can then be turned into necklaces or brooches so you can wear your stitching in style!
This workshop is a wonderful introduction to the art of ribbon embroidery showing how to add colours and textures to create a stunning piece of needlework. You will learn different techniques for creating ribbon flowers, which can be combined with cross stitch and other embroidery stitches to take your creativity to the next level!
In this fun workshop you’ll learn how to cross stitch an adorable design on a baby vest. Hannah will show you how to interface the fabric to keep your stitching stable and how to use soluble canvas to cross stitch on nonevenweave fabric. You will come away not only with a lovely baby gift but also with the know-how to cross stitch on any fabric!
