Exciting News and Events

This week third and fourth grade students began eMPower testing. Testing will continue until April 13. It is extremely important that if you child is healthy he/she be at school for these assessments. We encourage students to eat a healthy breakfast and get plenty of rest in order to perform their best! We’d also like to Mention… IN OTHER NEWS This week we held student-led conferences at the school on Monday and Wednesday night. Students were given the opportunity to share with their family some of the hard work that they have been involved in here at Newport/Plymouth Elementary. We had an excellent turn out. We appreciate those who were able to come and enjoy the hard work of our students. Thank you for sharing your children with us!

Our school's spring book fair will be held from April 2-8 and will be a Buy One/Get One fair. Parents now have the option of using ewallet to give students a secure, cash-free way to shop the fair. Simply create an eWallet and authorize a spending limit on your credit card. Your card is not charged until your child buys a book and unused funds are never charged. Directions can be found by clicking the GET STARTED button on our book fair webpage. We will also be open during literacy night for parents who would like to visit the fair and before and after school each day. http://www.scholastic.com/bf/newp ortplymouthelemsch1

HORNETHerald IN OTHER BREAKING NEWS… SPIRIT WEEK is next week starting Monday March 26th! All week we will have different guest visitors greeting the students as they enter the school each morning. There will be a mix of professionals from fire fighters to law enforcement to librarians and military personnel. Students can thank our guests for their service.

Snowman Contest Second grade had a snowman contest before our last vacation. Students formed teams of three and were given a roll of toilet paper and some tape. Some brought in some extra accessories. Each team designated one person to be wrapped with the toilet paper to become their snowman creation. Lots of laughing and excited voices filled the room. The result of a school wide vote determined the winners. First Place: Eli Brann, Jaedyn Pease, Brogan Burwood Second Place: Isabelle Ketcham, Landree Brock, Maddox Graves Third Place: Mahe Barbin, Zarek Carsley, Jimpsen Henriksen-Dupray

PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS… Students in grades prek-1 will be participating in a balancing unit over the next 3 weeks. The students will use the difference between static and dynamic balance and will learn how to perform examples of each. Copy Cat Balance, Balance Tag, Balancing Stations, and Broken Bridge are names of some of the activities that these students will participate in to help them learn. Students in grades 2-4 will be learning how to better communicate, problem solve, and work with others throughout a cooperative games unit. Learning activities such as Cross the River, Team Skiis, Scooter Bowling, Toxic Waste Transfer, and Ball Pass will be challenging and fun for all! Please help to remind your child to bring indoor footwear to school every day. Wearing boots in physical education creates a safety concern and slippery conditions.

At Newport/Plymouth Elementary School we are safe, responsible and respectful. If you see your child come home with a Hornet Hero sticker, please ask him/her how he/she earned it!

PBIS Update In the month of March students will be working on being a stand-by’er. A stand-by’er is someone who speaks up for others who may be hurt, sad or upset.
