Dear Parents /Guardians,
IMPORTANT DATES
Happy Monday! We have had a busy week in the Dolphin class. We started by practicing with the Golden Beads to find a solution to “How many laps did the Dolphin class complete as a whole class during the APEX Fun Run?” After I put all of the laps completed for each student on the board (I did not put names just numbers), we held a class meeting to discuss our options on ways to find an answer. After some interesting and creative suggestions, the students came to the conclusion they should use the Golden Bead box. Each student was able to lay the beads down on the carpet (i.e. 46= 4 ten bars and a six bar) until we had all the laps represented. We then grouped the ten bars into groups of 10 (representing 100) and traded the other lower number (i.e. a 6 bar and 4 bar) for ten bars until we had all the laps counted. The final result was that the Dolphins completed 760 laps around the track at the Fun Run. A quick note: the students have not had work plans for the past two weeks. I had assigned particular lessons and jobs daily and we completed several lessons in a whole group. I will begin the work plans again starting on Monday, September 26th. The work plan is weekly and you should see it come home each Friday. Due to a change in circumstances, the Sea Turtle class teacher has left and the decision was made to close the Sea Turtle class for the year. As a result, we would like to welcome one more friend back to the Dolphin class (as she was a Dolphin last year). Thank you and have a terrific week! Sincerely, Ms. Ann
