St. Matthew Congregation Board March 6, 2018

Dear Friends of St. Matthew, We are pleased to report to you that the vote conducted last Sunday in worship has been tabulated by our Call Committee. The member of the Congregation Board met on Tuesday night to consider those results and we are happy to inform you that the Call Process has been approved to continue. As you know we were asking from you a significant mandate of support before proceeding in the call process. The Board’s unpublished definition of the supermajority we were looking for was a 90% vote in favor of the call. Of the 308 votes cast on Sunday 280 were for “yes”, 28 were for “no”. That is a 91% vote in favor of calling a third pastor. Another significant statistic for you to know is that more than half of all the votes cast on Sunday (55%) were in favor of calling a third pastor without impacting the ministry commitments we presently support. Both the investment in Adult Faith Formation and the Ministry of Visitation will continue without determent or reduction. Many of you shared your reservations on the ballots last Sunday. Those reservations included reports of family financial limitations (we completely understand that). Others of you described concern about the economic setting for our congregation. Joe Wonderlick has made comments to allay both of those concerns. His letter is included with this one to respond as clearly as he can. Your reservations are important to us in this process. Pastor Jim and the Board members welcome any further questions and the opportunity to share in confidential conversations about the budget or the plans for this staff change. In light of the vote and Board’s approval to move forward, the Call Committee will be submitting the MSP form that was sent out to you in the past weeks. The next phase of the process includes collecting names of potential candidates and conducting interviews. Please keep our Call Committee in your prayers as we proceed toward the celebration of new ministry and faith support for the next generation belonging to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Sincerely, Your Congregation Board
