Growing in GRACE
Welcome to Highfield
Sunday 13 July 2014
A beloved child of God first and foremost
8am Holy Communion - Order One Mike Archer
We have had another epic summer of sport and the world cup final is tonight. The bible uses the analogy of sport a lot and of course, for good reason. 1 Corinthians 9:25 talks of athletes … ‘they do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.’ We are in the marathon of life. At the start of Jesus’ ministry life, the Father’s words over his Son were ‘This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy’. In one sense Jesus had not started what He came to do and yet the Father’s words over Him were those of love and affirmation. What we do for God and how we use the gifts, talents and resources He gives us are all important. But let us be like Jesus and work from a place of ‘being’. First and foremost we are a child of God and we are loved by Him. Out of that place let us run the race and win a crown that will Helen Godwin last forever.

Finance Update Praise the Lord for Gift Day generosity! Money received, plus pledges and tax, amounts to £66,000 for the roof and another £6,000 has been given for general funds. Thank you so much for your gifts! This means we have more than enough money to repair the roof and so we are now pressing ahead with the work and you should soon see scaffolding being erected around the spire. This week an insurance claim has been agreed. So the costs to the PCC should be £163,000 after deducting the insurance claim. There is the possibility of a grant, which would enable us to meet any contingencies. Thank you if you reviewed your regular giving! Changes are vital in growing regular income for our general funds and it's not too late if you haven't got round to it yet, but please don't delay. If you would like to talk to anyone about this please contact David Roberts at
[email protected] Together we thank God for this money, and pray that it will be spent wisely in God's service. Praise the Lord for providing the resources needed!
