Joseph (Genesis 37:3–4) Jacob was a friend of God. God loved Jacob. Jacob loved God.

Jacob had twelve sons. Jacob loved his sons. But Joseph was his favorite son. Jacob gave Joseph a special coat. It was a beautiful coat. It was very fancy. It had many colors. Joseph’s brothers did not have colorful coats. They were jealous. They wished they had a coat like Joseph.

(Genesis 37:12–36) The brothers did not like Joseph. They did not want Joseph to live with them. They sold Joseph to some men. The men wanted Joseph to be a slave. The brothers kept Joseph’s fancy coat. They pretended that Joseph was hurt by a wild animal. They lied to their father about Joseph. Jacob was very sad. But God took care of Joseph. Some men brought Joseph to see a king. Joseph helped the king. The king trusted Joseph. Joseph helped the king take care of the people.

(Genesis 44–45) Many years went by. Joseph lived with the king. Jacob and his sons did not know that Joseph was helping a king. Jacob and the brothers lived in the country. They took care of sheep. It hadn’t rained for many days. There was not enough food or water. There was a famine. Jacob and his family were starving.

They needed food. Joseph’s brothers went to the king’s helper to ask for food. They did not know that the king’s helper was Joseph. Joseph told his brothers who he was. He gave them food. Joseph wanted to see his father. He told his brothers to bring his father to him. The brothers told their father about Joseph. Jacob was so happy that Joseph was alive. The brothers took him to see Joseph. Joseph took care of his father and brothers. Joseph forgave his brothers.

Joseph told his brothers that God took care of him. He knew that the brothers did something bad. But God took care of him. God made things good. God also takes care of you. He can make bad things become good.

There were some bad people. They lived by Elijah. God punished the bad people. It did not rain for many days. There was no food. There was no water. The people were hungry. They blamed Elijah for their troubles. They wanted to hurt Elijah. Elijah had to hide. Birds gave food to Elijah. He had water to drink. God kept Elijah safe.
