2014 SEPTEMBER REVIEW The Bowling Green State University men’s golf team opened up the 2014 Fall season in a busy way, as the Falcons played in three events for the month of September. BGSU opened up with the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational on Sept. 8-9, where sophomore Jose Narro took first-place individual honors in the opening event.

Jose Narro Claims Medalist Honors with Win at Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational Huntington, West Virginia – Bowling Green State University’s Jose Narro picked up his second intercollegiate win on Tuesday, as the sophomore carded a final round 71, even par, to take first-place overall with a 54-hole combined score of 206, -7 under par, at the 45th annual Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational hosted by Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. “I played pretty good overall. I played textbook golf – fairways, greens and two putts,” commented Narro. “I think making birdie on 17 today in the last round was clutch because I didn’t know how I was doing compared to the guy trying to catch me. Winning and playing well this week gives me a big confidence boost and I look forward to playing at Hilton Head in two weeks.” As a team, the Falcons finished in a tie for seventh-place overall with a combined team score of 872, +20. BGSU carded rounds of 300, 282 and 290 over the three-round event. Bowling Green finished in a tie with Marshall at seventhplace and ahead of Wright State, Ohio, Northern Kentucky, Longwood, Dayton, Samford and Morehead State in the 15 team field. “I am very proud of how Jose (Narro) handled himself all day. He played extremely smart and made no mental mistakes,” commented head coach Kevin Farrell. “As a team we need to do a better job of “playing for the team” and stop making stupid mistakes. There is no reason to have an individual champion and finish tied for seventh.” Narro, who carded a career-low round 66, -5 under par, after a first round 69, -2 under par, on Monday, posted a final round 71, even par, on Tuesday to take first-place medalist honors overall with a combined tournament low 54-hole individual score of 206, -7 under par. Narro won the two-day event by three strokes, holding off Bill Gaffney of Youngstown State who shot a tournament score of 209, -4 under par. This is the second intercollegiate win for Narro as a Falcon having won the inaugural Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational last April. Coincidently, both of his collegiate tournament wins have come in the state of West Virginia. Also shooting a 71, even par, on Tuesday was fellow sophomore Brett Rinker, who had carded back-to-back rounds of 74, +3, on Monday. Rinker’s combined score of 219, +6, placed him in a tie for 32nd overall. In his first intercollegiate event, freshman Cameron Michalak posted a 64th-place showing, finishing in a tie with fellow BGSU golfer Joe Cooper. Michalak turned in rounds of 79, 71 and 75 to finish with a combined score of 225, +12, while Cooper’s 54hole score of 225, +12, came by way of rounds of 78, 71 and 76. Senior Ryan Triller had his best round of the tournament on Tuesday, as he recorded a round of 73, +2, to finish in a tie for 69th overall. Triller tallied rounds of 79, 74 and 73 to post a 54hole score of 226, +13.

Competing as an individual, freshman Mitchell Kontak finished his first intercollegiate event in a tie for 86th with a combined score of 234, +21. Kontak registered scores of 75, 79 and 80 over the three rounds of play. Youngstown State won the team championship with rounds of 284, 281 and 286 to finish five strokes ahead of the rest of the field with a combined team score of 851, -1 under par. Cincinnati (856, +4), William & Mary (860, +8), Radford (861, +9) and Eastern Kentucky (862, +10) rounded out the top-five of the team leaderboard. “We will work hard on hitting the ball straight and work nonstop on our short game this week as we prepare for our next tournament in a few weeks,” added Coach Farrell. ### T7th – Bowling Green – 300, 282, 290 = 872, +20 1. 2014 SEPTEMBER REVIEW Bowling Green then competed at two new events for the Falcons in the Rees Jones Intercollegiate and the Badger Invitational. The Rees Jones Intercollegiate, co-hosted by Kennesaw State and UNC-Wilmington, was held at the Haig Point Golf Club in Daufuskie Island, near Hilton Head Island, S.C. BGSU then trekked north to compete in the highly touted Badger Invitational at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin.

Falcons Finish Tied for Ninth at Badger Invitational

Daufuskie Island, S.C. – For the second straight day, the Bowling Green State University men’s golf team had a golfer shoot a low round 72, even par, however, the Falcons struggled overall as a team with a third round combined team score of 314, +26, on the final day of play at the Rees Jones Intercollegiate at the Jones Signature Course at the Haig Point Golf Club in Daufuskie Island, South Carolina. The Falcons carded rounds of 310, 313 and 314 over the three days of play to finish in 11th-place overall with a team score of 937, +73. “As a team we did not play well at all for the entire tournament,” stated head coach Kevin Farrell. “We had a few good rounds, but have got to find a way to have our entire team put together some solid rounds. Consistency for us has got to improve across the board. We will regroup and come out better prepared to play next week at the Badger Invitational.” Sophomore Jose Narro led the Falcons with a 23rd-place finish, as he turned in rounds of 77, 72 and 79 to finish with a combined 54-hole tournament score of 228, +12. Narro posted a team-best nine birdies over the three rounds of play. Fellow sophomore Brett Rinker shot a third round 72, even par, his best round of the three day event. Rinker recorded rounds of 79, 80 and 72 to finish in a tie for 36th-place overall with a combined score of 231, +15. He totaled seven birdies and tallied an eagle on hole 18 on Tuesday. Both Michalak and Cooper had five birdies apiece for the event. Rounding out the Falcon lineup was Mitchell Kontak, as the freshman turned in rounds of 88, 82 and 89 to finish with a score of 259, +43, and in 63rd-place overall. Co-host Kennesaw State won the team championship with a combined team score of 871, +7, to edge East Carolina who finished in second-place with a team score of 874, +10. Madison, Wisconsin – The Bowling Green State University men’s golf team carded a team score of 302, +14, the Falcons lowest team score for the three-round event, over the final round of play on a cold and windy Tuesday to finish in a tie for ninth-place overall at the 2014 Badger Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the par 72, 7,259-yards University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin. The Falcons turned in rounds of 305, 309 and 302 to finish in a tie for ninth-place overall with a combine team score of 916, +52. BGSU finished in a tie for ninth with Illinois State (916, +52) and ahead of Rutgers (919, +55), Drake (923, +59) and Bradley (925, +61) in the 13-team field. “We played pretty good considering the cold and windy weather conditions today,” commented head coach Kevin Farrell. “Jose (Narro) and Brett (Rinker) struggled to make putts all day long, but Ryan (Triller), Holden (Pahr) and Eli (Stacy) all shot lower today than they did yesterday. Overall we finished the tournament on a high note.” Sophomore Jose Narro shot a third round 76, +4, over the final round of play, as he posted a birdie on hole-15 and was one over on the front nine on the day. Narro turned in rounds of 77, 71 and 76 to finish in a tie for 21st overall with a 54-hole score of 224, +8. Carding the low round of the day for the Falcons was once again senior Ryan Triller with an 18-hole score of 74, +2. He carded two birdies on the day, one on both the front and back nine, and shot a 36 even par on the front nine on Tuesday. Combined with his first two round scores of 73 and 78, Triller ended the tournament in a tie for 28th-place overall with a combined three-round score of 225, +9. Both Brett Rinker and Holden Pahr each turned in a final round of 76, +4, as Rinker recorded nine straight pars on the back nine, while Pahr tallied three birdies on the day. 2014 FALL SCHEDULE The Bowling Green State University men’s golf team will have a challenging fall slate in 2014, as the Falcons will tee-off in six different events with all six tournaments coming in different states. “I believe that this year’s 2014 fall schedule is the best I’ve put together yet,” stated head coach Kevin Farrell. “If we play well, we will shoot up in the rankings and people will finally give us the respect we deserve. It won’t be easy, but we will be competing against top teams such as N.C. State, Iowa state, Clemson, Oregon, Tennessee and Georgia.”

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? Tim Lindemann Bowling Green State University Class of 1980

Tim Lindeman was a member of the Bowling Green golf team from 1976-80. I am retired, a Life Member of the PGA of America and have been a Mr. Mom for the past eight years in Columbus, Ohio. My wife, Missy, and I have 12 year old twins, Lily and Jack. My favorite golf moment at BGSU was serving as Co-Captain my senior year in 1979-80 with Gary Lust and our team winning a Fall Tournament at Eastern Michigan in 1979. My favorite spot to hang out at BGSU was the Rec Center playing basketball with friends. Of course the Rec Center had just opened in 1977.

Dear BGSU Golf Alumni and Fans, Things are in full swing in the Fall 2014 Season.
