Saint Bridget School Manchester, CT

How wonderful to be able to READ! This summer I want to continue to encourage reading by suggesting specific books and authors for each grade level. Students going into grades two through eight have required reading as well. As the children read these books they will increase their love of reading as well as strengthen their skills. Please encourage them by creating a fun environment and time for reading. Lemonade and flashlights outside have been known to coax the reluctant reader. Included with our list are the “Connecticut Reads” reading journals. The Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge for 2015 is underway. We are participating in this challenge to read, not just for the fun of competition, but because Saint Bridget School realizes how important reading during the summer months is for creating and maintaining competent readers. Each child is encouraged to return the reading log for The Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge, called Connecticut Reads 2015 upon returning to St. Bridget School in September. We ask that each book read during the summer be recorded in the log. (Parents: please put your initials next to each title to show that you know it was read). Sometime before the school year begins, your child should fill in the back page as well, indicating his/her favorite book read this summer. We encouraged the children to read often and find books that interest them. There are additional suggested reading list by grade level on the State of CT website. Just search CT Governor’s Reading Challenge 2015 for the website. All students who return the Governor's Challenge reading log to the office by September 11, will receive a reward certificate. In addition there are some other wonderful summer reading programs, such as the Manchester Library’s program and Barnes and Noble summer reading program. If you do participate in these as well, just make a copy of the same titles on the CT Reads 2015 log. I hope you enjoy this reading incentive program. Mrs. Mary Alice Nadaskay
