Mad River Youth Soccer League 2016 Soccer Program Welcome to another great season of youth soccer in northern Humboldt County!
AGE GROUP CHANGES Players in the 2016-2017 season will be grouped based on their CALENDAR-YEAR age. This change has been mandated by our governing associations (CYSA, US Club Soccer). All USSF affiliated leagues throughout the U.S. will be implementing this change. What this means: Players’ age groups will no longer be determined based on the July 31 birthday cut-off date. Instead, age groups will be determined only by year of birth. For example, if your child was born in 2011, s/he will be in the U6 age group for the 2016 season. Below is the age group matrix for 2016/17. STEELHEAD NEWS -- For children born in 2007 and 2008 (U9 and U10) Teams are back! MRYSL is partnering with Challenger Sports to bring in a professional, licensed coach to direct the Steelhead program. The Steelhead Director will provide the content for all parent volunteer coaches and distribute session plans, and be present at practices and game days to provide support and feedback to players and coaches. Additionally, MRYSL is returning to a "team" format for this age group and volunteer coaches will be assigned a roster for practices and games. Coaches will receive: Introductory coaches clinic A National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Coach Handbook Free 6-month trial membership to NSCAA Free access to the Challenger Way (videos, PDFs, tips, advice) Professionally-written session plans distributed via email prior to all sessions Cost: $105, Sibling discount and financial aid available New this Year: For this age group, games will be played 7 aside, and the offside rule will be called. UK International Soccer Camp: Hiller Park, August 22 to 26
Fall Programs: Registration Starts May 1, ends May 31 – see enclosed sheet for registration details. Mad Skills Kids Klub: For children born in 2009 to 2012 (U8 and younger): Practices start around 8/15/2015, through end of October. Game days on Saturdays at Hiller Park, Hoopa and Willow Creek. Practices at various fields during the week, throughout northern Humboldt County. Cost: $105.00 (Sibling discount available). Please see enclosed sheet for registration info.
U11 and older: For children born in 1999 to 2006 (U11 to U18): Mad River Community/Local Program: Team-based play, with volunteer coaches. Usually one or two practices per week, one game on the weekend. Travel between Hoopa, Willow Creek and the coast may be required, depending on teams. Expect to play one-half the games in Eureka, Fortuna and Redway; the other half at Hiller Park. Equal playing time, no cuts. Cost: $105; Game format: U11/U12 plays 9 on 9; U13 and U14 plays 11 on 11; U15 and older plays 6 on 6. Please see enclosed sheet for registration info. Mad River United: Travel teams playing in NorCal Premier League (U14 +), CalNorth Border League (U11-U13), and possible away tournaments Professional, licensed coaches and trainers Expect to travel 3-4 times in the fall – NorCal Premier League games in Santa Rosa, Napa, & Marin areas, Border League games all in Redding. st A second evaluation and tryout will be held on May 1 at the HSU field house. o U11 & U12: 12:30-2:30 pm o U13 & up: 2:45-4:45 For the MRU program , please register online at www.mrysl.net. There is no cost or obligation to register or tryout. Team assignments will be made in mid-May, you will have the option of accepting or declining the position at that time.
