PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - SEPT. 6 PLAYER OF THE WEEK - MADDIE PALMER, RADFORD, OH, JR (SIMPSONVILLE, S.C.) Palmer helped lead Radford to a 3-1 weekend at the UAB/Samford Challenge where she totaled 59 kills, 4.92 kills per set and 5.54 points per set. She posted double-doubles in three of the four matches, and was just one dig shy of a double-double in the fourth. DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - MADISON MARTIN, CHARLESTON SOUTHERN, LIB, SOPH. (BIRMINGHAM, MICH.) Martin averaged 5.40 digs per set last week and recorded four matches with at least 20 digs to pace CSU’s defensive efforts. The Birmingham, Mich., native recorded a career-high 30 digs in a three-set match against Savannah State in the opening match of the Bash in the Boro. THE CRONS BRAND FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK - BROOKE MONSSEN, CHARLESTON SOUTHERN, OH , FR. (JACKSONVILLE, N.C.) Monssen led Charleston Southern’s offense last week as the freshman outside hitter averaged 2.55 kills per set and 1.15 blocks per set. She had double-digit kills in three separate matches. Monssen had 14 kills and three blocks in the Bucs’ 3-0 win over S.C. State on Tuesday.

2016 Big South Volleyball CAMPBELL Campbell went 2-2 this past weekend in the San Francisco Invitational. The Fighting Camels fell to Indiana (3-2) and Princeton (3-1) but turned it around and defeated Columbia (3-0) and San Francisco (3-2). JENNY TAIT recorded double-digit blocks in the five-set win versus San Francisco. Tait was a key staple in the front row for the Camels on both sides of the ball during the weekend where she averaged 1.71 kills, 2.82 points and 1.41 blocks in 17 sets played. CHARLESTON SOUTHERN Charleston Southern went 3-2 this past week as the Buccaneers posted wins over South Carolina State, Savannah State and Jacksonville State. BROOKE MONSSEN had double-digit kills in three of the five matches on the week to pace the Bucs’ hitting efforts including 18 in CSU’s five-set win over Jacksonville State. MADISON MARTIN took advantage of her first week in the libero position as she recorded 20+ digs in four of the five matches, including 30 in CSU’s three-set win over Savannah State. Martin was named to the Bash in the Boro All-Tournament team for her efforts over the weekend. GARDNER-WEBB Gardner-Webb rebounded from a tough opening weekend with a pair of wins last week, holding on to edge USC Upstate in a five-set thriller on Tuesday before sweeping Limestone on Thursday. Redshirt freshman EMMA MILSTEAD continued her strong season with 24 digs against Upstate, followed by 16 digs and two aces in the sweep of Limestone. HIGH POINT High Point is on a four match winning streak and its 5-1 record is the best start in the program’s Division I era. The Panthers beat Triad rivals UNCG and Elon along with Youngstown State to sweep the Tussle in the Triad. Junior HALEY BARNES earned Tournament MVP honors while sophomores MOLLY LIVINGSTON and KATIE TYLMAN were named to the all-tournament team. High Point is out-hitting opponents .248 to .189 on the year. LIBERTY Liberty went 2-1 this past weekend, defeating USC Upstate (3-0) and Hampton (3-0) but falling to ETSU (0-3). 13th-year head coach SHANE PINDER moved into second place in Big South history with 224 career coaching victories. The Lady Flames set a home attendance record for a non-conference match, with 1,343 fans at the Vines Center for Liberty’s 3-0 win over USC Upstate on Friday. Liberty’s 11 aces against Hampton were the most by the Lady Flames in a single match since posting 13 aces on Aug. 24, 2012 at NC Central. ANNA GRAGG and CASEY GOODWIN had seven and six blocks, respectively, against ETSU, the first time in at least 20 years that two Liberty freshmen had six or more blocks in the same match. PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE Presbyterian had a tough weekend with losses to Jacksonville, Illinois-Chicago, and Charlotte. SIERRA DAVIS recorded a career-high 16 kills, while ERIN EULITZ added 15 in the UIC loss. SARA ROGERS posted a career-high tying three service aces and her 41 assists were just eight shy of her career mark. Against UIC, three Blue Hose recorded double-digit kills in a match for the first time since Sept. 19, of last season. That was a span of 19 matches. Rogers finished with 41 assists against UIC, marking the fourth time in five matches she has posted over 20. The 51 total digs against Charlotte was a season-high, with the 49 assists in the match against UIC also a season mark. RADFORD Radford continued its strong start with a 3-1 performance at the UAB/Samford Challenge. The Highlanders won their first three matches of the event to go 6-0 on the season, the program’s best start under head coach MARCI JENKINS. Radford posted sweeps in each of their victories, making it five straight sweeps on the season, RU’s longest such streak since 2001. The Highlanders also captured 18 consecutive sets dating back to their season-opening comeback win over Wake Forest, before losing the first set in a setback to Samford in the tournament finale. UNC ASHEVILLE UNC Asheville comes into this week 2-2 after recently defeating Montreat in three sets. The Asheville offense produced 42 total kills for a .248 hitting percentage, and featured two Bulldogs with double-digit kills, SHELBY ERICKSON with 12 (.233) and CARA GUTHRIE with 11 (.267). Sophomores MADISEN ZYBURT and Cara Guthrie each picked up three aces to lead Asheville from the service line. As a team, Asheville collected 10 total service aces to Montreat’s one. Asheville out-dug Montreat, 47-41, with three Bulldogs reaching double-digit digs: Erickson (11), Guthrie (10) and Zyburt (10). WINTHROP Winthrop went 1-2 on the weekend at the Carolina Classic, falling to Clemson and South Carolina while defeating Furman. BRIANNA GRAY had a strong weekend, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. LOURDES ROSARIO also totaled 45 kills in three matches.
