Spring Term Newsletter 2015 Number 4 The Big Pedal 2015
From 2nd to 20th March we will be taking part in the Big Pedal 2015. This is a SUSTRANS sponsored event and we will be supported by Peter Gulbrandsen. During these three school weeks we want as many children to come to school on their bikes and scooters as possible. Classes will keep a tally of how many children cycle/scooter each day and the best performing class for each week will win a prize. Every day you come to school on a bike or scooter you will be given a raffle ticket. Keep it safe. The more days you come to school this way the more tickets you will receive. At the end of the three weeks there will be a grand draw for prizes. There will be a GRAND PRIZE well worth winning. (Winning ticket numbers will be published in a newsletter) There are a number of exciting activities across the three weeks in March and even an event leading up to the Big Pedal in February. 2nd March Bikers’ Breakfast So that we can get off to a good start to the Big Pedal event we will be holding a Bikers’ Breakfast in our school hall. Cyclists and scooter riders are welcome. The event starts at 8.30a.m. Lock up your bike or scooter and make your way to the school hall. This is a ticket event (tickets issued later) so you must sign up. This event is for any age children; however, you must have an adult with you for the whole time from 8.30a.m. Adults cannot drop their child and go. You must come on your bike or scooter. (Adults are allowed to walk to school!) Sign up below and bring your bike or scooter on 2nd March.
NEW ACTIVITY! nd
2 March Bike Post-Coding Our police officers will be in school all morning and will be available to etch postcodes on bikes and scooters. They do this in a place where it does not show, usually on the underside of a frame. This does involved scratching the paint into the digits of your postcode and to stop this rusting they will cover this in a coat of lacquer. This is a good way of ensuring your bike is returned should it be stolen from school or home. Unfortunately it does require the paint to be scratched so if you don’t want the paintwork to be marked please do not ask for this to happen. Personally, I will be having my bike done on this day.
12th March Dr. Bike at Hedworth Lane Primary School So that we can prepare for the Big Pedal, I will be holding a Dr.Bike day at Hedworth Lane Primary School on Thursday 12th February, 9.00am – 3.30pm. It’s a great opportunity for parents to make sure that Christmas bikes have been assembled correctly or just to receive some ongoing maintenance in time for our Big Pedal event. I will check and fix any minor problems with the children’s bikes for free! Please attach the slip below to your child’s bike if there is a specific problem you would like to be looked at. After I have completed bikes with slips attached, I will continue to carry out a general health check on all of the bikes brought into school. We encourage you to take advantage of this session and we hope to see many bikes in school. Sign up below and bring your bike on 12th March. Please remember to leave bikes unlocked for me to check them over! You can speak with Peter Gulbrandsen about any of these activities
