2nd Grade Fall Academy Week 8: Shooting Foot Skills – skills corridor

Shoot to target

Two way goal

Implementation Each player dribbles up and down their corridor, players will do a different foot skill as the coach instructs.

Implementation Each player will set up in a pair across from a center cone about 10 yards away. Play for a couple of minutes at a time, each time the cone is hit the player gets a point. After the 2 minutes is over, you will have a winner and loser in each pair. The winners move up and losers move down to the next cone.

Implementation In groups of four set up, one goal keeper, one feeder (blue player) and two shooters. Shooters receive the ball from the feeder, then takes a shot on goal. The goal keeper turns around then repeat on the opposite side.

Foot skills to include: -Free dribble -Inside/Outside only -Lace/Sole only -Creative dribble Add moves/turns (Step over/Step over turn) Coaching Points • Keep the ball close • Head up and looking for space • Change directions and speeds • Lots of touches on the ball/Fast feet

Progression Moving further back in distance. Strong foot 1 point, weak foot 3 points Coaching Points • Correct shooting technique • Laces technique-NO toes • ABC’s • Angle- of the approach • Body- non kicking foot by the ball/chin-knee-toe • Contact- strike the laces in the middle of the ball • Follow through for power

Progression • Add the feeder in as a defender. • Keep rotating GK, shooters, feeder and defender. Coaching Points • Correct shooting technique • Strike the middle of the ball with the lace-NO toes • ABC’s (angle/body/contact) • First touch then shoot- at speed

All sessions end with small sided games (3v3/4v4) or a regular game (5v5) 20 min at least NO coaching- let the children play!
