2nd May 2017 Winyates News Welcome back to the Summer Term! We have had a super start to this term, with children already excited about their new topic and looking forward to the challenges this term may bring. We were very pleased to see so many parents at the Parent Meetings last week, thank you to all those who attended and for your ongoing support. If you missed the meetings last week, please speak to class teachers, they will be very happy to arrange an alternative meeting after school this week or next. We are very proud of Grace Pinhorn, in Year 2, who passed the Times Table Challenge 10 last week! What an achievement –this is the level that Year 6s usually work hard to pass. Grace is the youngest child ever at Winyates to pass this at only 7 years old! Well done Grace –keep up the hard work! Attendance and Punctuality Our Spring Term attendance awards were given out on last Friday and I’m pleased to say that: 42 children received a gold award for 100% attendance 33 children received a silver award for 98% attendance and above 42 children received a bronze award For 95& attendance and above Our attendance last week was: Reception 90.52% Year 1 90.53% Year 2 96.94% Year 3 94.64% Year 4 95.69% Year 5 96.18% Year 6 95.06% School overall 94.19%

Sport News This week we will be kicking off the Summer Term with two tournaments. The Year 2’s will be taking part in the Peterborough Kwik Fire Threes cricket tournament, while the Year 5/6 Hockey players will be taking part in the Peterborough Hockey Tournament hoping to build on the success they enjoyed in the Orton tournament. Club News Unfortunately there will be no Year 5/6 Cricket club this week, as Mr Carson will be out at a tournament. Year 5 The Eagles Thank you to all those parents who attended our Parents Meetings. SEN Parental Inclusion Clinic As a school committed to improving the life chances of all our children and supporting parents, we will be trialling a Parental Inclusion Clinic this term. During these clinics parents will have the opportunity to discuss the special educational needs and/or disability of their child, should they wish to. During these sessions we will be able to point parents in the right direction of support or additional support. The sessions are designed for any parent who has a worry or concern about their child and would like some advice. The clinic will be held on the first Wednesday of each month. In Literacy we are writing about the gingerbread man and labelling We had a great start to the term last pictures of him. We have been exploring the ingredients used to make gingerbread and talking about the different textures. In Numbertime we have been thinking about weight –weighing different objects around the classroom, comparing them using language such as heavy and light and putting them in order of weight. We will continue with this learning this week –Miss Venters has got some mystery bags that we are going to be weighing –I wonder what’s inside?
