A City to Remember Vatican City Community College Submission - Studio Project Many European cities like Vatican City still stand as reminders of the power of ancient Rome held in the early world., and as an influence throughout the western world. Architecture was crucial to the success of Rome, both in formal architecture such as temples and basilicas, as well as its utilitarian buildings. Vatican City provided a network of administrative centers and acted as visible symbols of power throughout the City. One notable power, Saint Peter’s Basilica is one of the reasons why it was an inspiration to select this city. A part of the project was to hand rendered images of buildings like the Saint Peter’s Basilica and Sistine Chapel, which emphasize the religious power of Vatican City. Another selection was the Vatican garden. This natural space emphasizes the beauty of nature that has been sustained and preserved for centuries. It shows the importance of Vatican City’s historical development through many generations. Using effective time management and craftsmanship, there was success completing this project. It takes considerable time to do the smallest detail in order to match the realistic imagery of the structures. Using mostly Prismacolor markers and color pencils, alongside micron pens to complete the hand rendered project. Overall, the ink rendering used methods of stippling and scrumbling. Once the ink rendering was completed, the image was transferred to Strathmore paper where the color rendering was completed using a combination of color marker and color pencil; the focus was blending colors and use of shadows.
