PRESS RELEASE The Westlake Athletic & Community Center (WACC) has named Adrian Thomas as the Director of Basketball Operations. Adrian is well-known in the Austin basketball community. He was a standout player at Dell Valle High School. In college, he was honored as the #1 point guard in the NJCAA in 2010 and is the all-time assist leader at Kishwaukee College in Illinois. Adrian finished his college career at Missouri Western State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Recreation Sports Management. After college, Adrian played professional basketball in Sweden, Turkey and Spain, where he later discovered his passion for training youth basketball players. He has worked with youth basketball programs in many states, and internationally in Turkey, Spain, Bulgaria, Kosovo and Germany. Adrian’s high energy level, his ability to inspire others through his training, and his commitment to making a difference make him a vital asset to the Austin basketball community. Adrian will lead the WACC’s basketball program which consists of select tournament teams, specialized basketball camps, advanced and intermediate skills clinics, private coaching, and league play for elementary through high school students. “I am excited to join the Westlake Athletic and Community Center where I will be able to take advantage of the state-of-the art basketball facilities. Great players become great by mastering the fundamentals of shooting, ball handling, passing, and defense. These attributes are the core of my training philosophy and will be heavily emphasized through our programs at the WACC. I look forward to helping develop the next generation of great players.” WACC General Manager Sarah Silvernail adds “I’m excited to have Adrian on board. Our coaching philosophies are very similar. We are both passionate about the importance of excellent technical training at a young age and implementing a consistent plan as the athlete matures. We also know the value in cross training not only to prevent injury, but maintain a love for the game. The WACC is an ideal platform to raise a well-rounded athlete, teammate and individual.” The WACC is a 70,000 square foot indoor sports facility which serves athletes of all ages in Austin. The facility has 5 full-size basketball courts, 10 volleyball courts and a fifty yard indoor turf field, which can be configured into two indoor soccer and lacrosse fields. Since opening in December 2015, the WACC has hosted thousands of students, leagues, tourneys, and camps.  Registration is going on now for fall sports including K-6 and adult basketball leagues, select basketball training (K-12), K-6 volleyball league and a 4-12 indoor lacrosse league.  Please visit www.wacctexas.com for more information or to register.
