Architectural Designs for Elementary School Underway Design Meetings Incorporate Input from Elementary Faculty and Staff

Architect Drew Cummings, Technology Teacher Collin Gaskamp, Technology Aide Debra Faurie, Technology Director Thomas Cozzi, and architect Bob Shelton of Fromberg and Associates look over plans of elementary school improvements.

Since passage of the $ 7.995 million bond last May, plans have been ongoing throughout the summer to get the elementary school improvements underway. “Representatives of the elementary school met with architects throughout the summer to provide input on plans for renovation of the historical building, and the construction of a new cafeteria.” said Superintendent Dr. Buck Ford. “The input from our faculty and staff has been significant.” On Thursday, architects Bob Shelton and Drew Cummings of Fromberg and Associates met with teachers in the several design groups which are a focus of their planning: computer lab; art classroom; band/music classroom; special education; 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms; science lab; and library. “We’ve met with these groups throughout the summer, and wanted to meet with them again to give them an update,” said architect Bob Shelton. “We incorporated their ideas into these designs, Drew Cummings and Bob Shelton. and now want their feed-

back.” “We’ll take today’s feedback, and continue to refine our designs. We plan to come back once more at the end of September, and by then we should have them pretty much complete.” Teachers appreciate the input. “It looks great,” said Special Education Director Kathryn Rutherford. “I’m excited. Let’s go!” Librarian Laurie Kirkscey said, “These planning sessions have been very productive. The architect team and the administration have listened to the elementary faculty—who will be teaching in the new yellow building every day—and tried to incorporate as many of our suggestions as possible.” “As a librarian I really appreciate that I was involved in the planning of the new Board of Trustees library. I always felt Matt Herden, President that Drew Cummings Troy Immel, Vice President Kirk Felps, Secretary and Bob Shelton underTim Nance stood my point of view Charles Riley and were willing to Bernie San Miguel include and expand my Darrel Wagner ideas to create an attracSuperintendent tive, well-designed liDr. Buck Ford brary.”

Campuses Host “Meet the Teachers” Nights Events Provide Opportunity for Parent Involvement

Architectural Renderings of Elementary Improvements Released

Middle School “Meet the Teachers” night was held last Tuesday.

Blanco schools were open for “Meet the Teachers” nights, which allowed parents to meet their child’s teachers, and experience their child’s classroom environment. “We want to provide an opportunity early on for parents to meet with teachers,” said Superintendent Dr. Buck Ford. “This allows parents an early view of their child’s teacher, their classroom, and their overall school environment. We want parents to feel comfortable with our schools and their child’s educational experience.” The elementary school held its “Meet the Teachers” night on Friday, August 19. Elementary principal Sue Ann Reininger said, “This was an excellent time for parents to make contact with their child’s teachers. Students were able to bring their supplies, find their classroom, and meet their teachers.” The middle school held its “Meet the Teachers” night on Tuesday, August 30. Middle school principal Jesse Salazar said, “Blanco Middle School had a great turnout of parents attending Meet the Teachers night. Teachers did a great job in displaying the work of students that has taken place in the classroom. I’d like to thank the parents for attending.” The high school held its “Meet the Teachers” night on Monday, August 29. “I want to thank all parents for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend our Meet the Teachers night,” said high school principal Dustin Barton. “The well-attended event allowed parents to have a small taste of what their children experience daily based on their child’s class schedule.”
