(L to R) Bret Leigh Nance, Meaghen Seales, Coach Brandi Mumme discuss state track preparations.
Senior Meaghen Seales and sophomore Bret Leigh Nance both qualified for the State Track and Field meet as a result of their performances at the Region IV track meet held last Saturday in Converse. Nance qualified in two events, first winning the 800 meter run in a school record-breaking time of 2:19, then finishing second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:33. “It’s really cool,” said Nance when asked about her performance at the Regional meet. “I hope to run even better at state.” Nance is ranked as the top seed in Class 2A in the 800 meters. Seales, who will be making her fourth and final trip to the state meet, finished second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22. She is ranked as the number three seed in that event. “It’s really exciting making it to the state meet four years in a row,” said Seales, who shared an added incentive to motivate her. “I told Mrs. Petri (Family and Consumer Sciences teacher), ‘If I win state, you can give me your recipe for those cookies you make!’” Coach Brandi Mumme said, “I am so excited for Meaghen and Bret! They both work harder than anyone I know, and it has paid off! State will be fun; they both have a chance to medal.” Seales’ and Nance’s state qualifying performances were
the highlights of the Regional meet, but Blanco’s other athletes did well also. “The Regional track meet was great!” said Mumme. “All the girls ran well against tough competition and everyone made the finals.” “Both relays ran their best times, and we were the only relay teams to make finals out of all the teams in our district and area.” “I am extremely proud of this team! With only three Regional returners from last year, they really stepped up and competed at a higher level. I cannot wait to have all of them back at Regionals next year plus a few more!” Boys Boys coach Jason Lester said, “The Regional meet was amazing. The boys ran extremely well.” Board of Trustees “The 4x100 Relay Matt Herden, President team of Adrien Troy Immel, Vice President Dominguez, Aikman Kirk Felps, Secretary Tim Nance Elrod, John Hodge, Charles Riley and Alex Palos placed Bernie San Miguel fourth and broke the Darrel Wagner Continued on Page Two...

Submitted by Blanco High School—The Junior Class of BHS recognized GenTX Day by taking a college tour to Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. GenTX Day is May 2nd, 2014, and is a call to action statewide to motivate students with a real-world college experience that inspires them to visualize a career goal and take the steps to achieve it. BHS students were given the opportunity to tour TSU, learning about the University’s history, its programs of study, and concluding with a lunch of each student’s choice at the LBJ Student Center. High School counselor Linsey Balmos, who organized the tour, said, “I always get excited when the talk is about making plans to further your education.” “I had an awesome college experience, and I want our High School students to also be able to find their own lifetime experiences; so I believe it begins with that first step of gathering all the necessary information about colleges, including visiting a college/trade school campus.” Junior student Reagan Rogers said, “I enjoyed learning about the traditions of TSU and the connections the University has to former President Lyndon Johnson.” Junior Abbie Culton said, “I am now more excited about my future college plans after going on the trip to TSU.” Blanco ISD Goal # 2 Blanco ISD graduates will be college and post-high school ready.
