Altar Cloths for Churches in the Dominican Republic Special Project for Nebraska Episcopal Women’s Ministries and Nebraska Daughters of the King At the special request of Ellen Snow, Nebraska missionary in the Dominican Republic, we are seeking women in Episcopal churches to make altar cloths for churches in the DR. Our goal is to make at least 30 sets by August 2011, then to send a group of women down to the DR to do training in Altar Care. We would like you to be a part of that ministry. Many things are needed—buying the fabric, cutting the linens to the recommended sizes, sewing the hems around the edges, and embroidering crosses on the linens. So please consider being a part of this ministry which will bless many churches in the DR. Step 1. Pray that your work will be lovingly received in the DR by a church in need. Step 2. Purchase a 10 yard bolt of white weavers cloth—a polyester blend. For those with a JoAnn Fabrics in your community, many have used the 40% off coupon for purchasing the fabric. It is 44” wide, and the number is 01250687. Step 3. Cut the fabric to include at least the following from one bolt: One Fair Linen 38 ½” x 111 ½” which hemmed will be 36”x 108” (1” hem on sides and 1 ½” on the ends). Two Purificators 13”x13” which hemmed will be 12”x12” (1/4” hem on each side) One Corporal 17” x 17” which hemmed will be 15 ½ ”x15 ½ ” (3/4” hem on each side) One or more Lavebo towels 11”x 15” which hemmed will be about 10”x 14” (1/4” hems on each side). Step 4. Hem the pieces using a simple straight stitch. Step 5. Send them to Nancy Nockels, Trinity Episcopal Church, 111 South 9th Street, Norfolk, NE 68701. Please make arrangements to have all completed sets of altar linens delivered to Nancy, no later than August 27 so embroidery can be added.
