Newsletter – April 2016 Training Information Monday Night Training for all groups now will commence at 6pm to 7pm, meeting beside the carpark at Boyne Community School hall. For the older group (John Rowe's group), training will commence at 6:40pm at Scoil Mhuire for conditioning training for one hour. Track training in Claremont Stadium on Wednesdays, from 7.00 to 8.30. Parents - Please collect your child (the younger groups) after training from the playing field beside Boyne Community School carpark at 7pm sharp. No child will be allowed to leave without an adult. For the older groups - juveniles are to remain at the carpark for pickup unless agreed with parent that they can walk home. Don't forget your €2 sub. Please ensure you wear proper runners and suitable clothing to training and bring a bottle of water to drink. No jeans or spikes to be worn. Please note, each child has to advise the children’s officer/treasurer on the Monday night of their attendance so it can be recorded on the Juvenile attendance report.

Training Roster Given the high number of juveniles in the Athletic Club (currently over 150), all parents with a registered child will be placed on a roster to help the coaches for 1 hour on a Monday. The idea is that parents would take it in turns to provide assistance to the coaches. Ideally we would like to keep it to once a month or less for each parent - the more parents that help out, the less often people will be required to help. It is only supervision, training is not required. The club is run on a volunteer basis so we need to support our children in getting the best training.

Upcoming Events for Track and Field Season 2016 Meath League Track and Field League, Claremont Stadium, Navan Wednesday 27th April

Meath Track and Field League Day 2 Claremont, Navan

We would love to see all our juveniles attend these events in Claremont. Trim AC ranked high in 2015 coming 5th overall out of 15 clubs in Meath and 2nd in Division B. We were only 2 points off 1st place in Division B and 28 points for 3rd place in Division A. We want to make a big push for 2016. This is a great league for all our juveniles to participate in. Events ranging from sprints, ball throw, turbo javelin, high jump and long jump. It is a great opportunity to gain experience in competing in a fun and friendly atmosphere. C'mon Trim we can do it !!!!!

Top class Coaching Network launched Athletics Ireland launched the first Sprints, Hurdles and Jumps coaching conference on Saturday 16th April at Athlone IT. In attendance from Trim AC were Pat Comey, John Rowe, Mary Gonsalves and Ciaran Tobin. They all found this course format to be a refreshing change with the emphasis on participation and interaction. The conference included a mixture of theory and practical sessions. The main focus of the workshops and talks was on developing and improving on the technical aspects of sprinting, hurdling, long jumping and high jumping. Top coaches nowadays recognise they are on a continuous journey of learning. This coaching network will hopefully be the first of many learning opportunities of this nature. Allowing our club coaches to develop, and also to network with other coaches and help build a better support structure for their own training group. AAI director of development Pat Ryan used some Irelands best ever long and high jumpers, Ciaran McDonagh and Deirdre Ryan for plyo work and drills with Tom Crick and Richard Wheater for sprints and hurdles.

Athletics should be safe, fun and conducted in a spirit of fair play Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them. Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials. Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes. Publicly accept officials' judgments. Support your child's involvement and help them to enjoy their sport. Use correct and proper language at all times. Encourage and guide performers to accept responsibility for their own performance and behaviour.

Wanted - Old Phones We want to collect as many old mobile phones as possible to obtain a defibrillator for the club. It is part of the Fones4Life programme - see website www.fones4life.ie for more information. Any old phones can be handed in on club nights. We need to collect 300 old mobile phones in exchange for a lifesaving defibrillator, so if you have any old phones lying around, please donate them for this cause.
