Asker Lake District Visit July 2016 Year 7s at Verulam have been enjoying an end of year Outdoor Education/Pastoral Visit to the Lake District for the last 30+ years. This year will be no exception. For the last 10 years the trip has been run in a way that enables ALL the boys to gain from the experience. I am quite confident that any parent who has sent their son on the Lake District visit in the past will tell you it is without question very rewarding for all involved. In the past we have had to limit to between 80 and 90 boys going to the Lake District and the boys left have to do other activities back at school. This year we will be taking over 150 year 7 students who are looking forward to a wonderful experience. Next year we again want to take as many of Year 7 on the trip as possible spreading the boys over 9 days so each half of the Year Group have 4 activity days and 1 day for travel. In order to enable the visit to take place we do have to ask for a voluntary contribution of £380. This will include all meals, accommodation, transport, pocket money and all activities. In the event of insufficient contributions being made, the visit would unfortunately not be able to take place. No additional costs are required as pocket money is included in the cost. I appreciate that in difficult economic times that this is a considerable outlay. However, I have organised a payment plan to spread out the cost. There are 10 months between the payments starting and departure. A £100 deposit to register for the trip and ten monthly payments of £28 will cover the total cost. We will investigate the possibility of financial help for any families who are in need of assistance. Please contact Mrs Harrison/Mr Ramsey directly if you are in this situation. We have helped several boys to go over the years by providing financial assistance. For any students who require specific arrangements regarding diet, medical issues or religious prayers, these can be accommodated easily. I would like all students to have the opportunity to experience new challenges and therefore work closely with the hostel to ensure all needs are catered for. The overall aim of the visit is to end the year with an enjoyable, exciting and challenging few days in fantastic scenery, undertaking a variety of activities. The activities are designed to promote teamwork, co-operation, and personal growth through the means of adventurous and interesting experiences.
