Natsukashii combines the traditional Japanese method of shibori with contemporary technique. Dating back to the 8th century, shibori is a method of resist-dyeing in which cloth is bound, stitched, folded, twisted, and compressed.

UKIYO [ oo - key - yo ] • Japanese (noun) • “The Floating World”; Living in the moment, detached from the bothers of life.
Using the ancient Japanese marbling process of suminagashi, Ukiyo is a contemporary take on the floating ink technique. These designs were handcrafted in-house using traditional ink, water, and paper, then digitally transformed into compelling murals. Like its namesake, each composition is a suspended microcosm, captured before it dissipates.

TOMMY BAHAMA STORES Los Angeles, CA
Astek’s design team worked hand in hand with Tommy Bahama and MG2 Architects to create custom wallcoverings for their CA retail space. The resulting wallpaper patterns were adapted from actual Tommy Bahama apparel prints, like this tropical motif featured prominently in the store’s center.
FINISH LINE New York, NY
Inspired by NYC’s urban-meets-active lifestyle, this illustrative wallpaper was created for Finish Line’s store in Macy’s at Herald Square. A composite of iconic landmarks, streetwear, and neighboring

The walls of DLR Group’s new DTLA offices celebrate the spirit of Los Angeles. Astek teamed with HBA (Santa Monica) to print large-scale, photographic murals of iconic structures and locations across the city. The bold, impactful imagery adds a dramatic element to the overall space.

PRINT TECHNIQUES
WINDOW FILM COLOR WHITE COLOR STANDARD Standard printing maintains a transparent quality, allowing the print to be viewed from both sides.
WHITE OVER With ‘White Over’ printing, a layer of white ink
HAPTIC
is applied to one side of the film so the colors in the graphic pop on the other. A good choice for window film that will only be seen from one side.
At Astek, we pride ourselves on being forwardthinking and technology-driven. In our latest tech endeavor Astek is experimenting with Haptic printing, a technique that allows us to print raised surfaces to create dimensional wallcoverings. With Haptic, we’re able to mimic the look and feel of embossed patterns and even brush strokes in fine artwork.
COLOR- WHITE- COLOR The ‘Color-White-Color’ option allows for both sides of the graphic to appear in vivid color. An excellent solution for window film that will be viewed from every angle.
