Storylines and history • Augustana is back on the on the road to take on McKendree, Southern Indiana, and Indianapolis this weekend in Evansville, Indiana on March 9-11. All games will be played at the USI Baseball Field. • The Vikings take on McKendree and Southern Indiana in two nine-inning games on March 9. • Augustana faces Indianapolis in a doubleheader on March 10 beginning at 2 p.m. • The Vikings then matchup with Southern Indiana in a nine-inning game on March 11 at 1 p.m. • Augustana will then travel to Kansas City, Mo. to take on Rockhurst on Wednesday, March 12 at 2 p.m. • The nine-inning game will be played at Loyola Park Baseball Field.

Offensive outburst against Lindenwood • The Vikings got the bats rolling in a three-game sweep of Lindenwood on Feb 15 and 16. • Augustana scored 30 runs in the series, highlighted by a season-high 15 in the second game of a doubleheader *NSIC doubleheader (7/9 innings) on Feb. 16. (9) - 9-inning game • Jack Goihl hit an impressive .416 (5 for 12) in the three-game sweep. $ NSIC Tournament, Sioux Falls, S.D. • Goihl also had seven RBI, scored three runs, and had one home run in the series. Preseason honors • The Vikings’ Tony Viger and Bennett Johnson were tabbed as 2014 NSIC Players to Watch for Augustana. • Viger is a returning 2013 All-NSIC second-team performer at third base. • Viger posted numbers last year of .337 avg., 64 hits, 53 RBI’, 3 HR’s, 44 runs scored, 17 SB’s. • Johnson finished last season with 4-1 record in 43.2 innings pitched. • Johnson also had a 2.68 ERA, punched out 44 batters while only walking seven in 11 apperances. • Johnson made seven starts on the mound for the Vikings last season.

One for the ages • 2013 was one of the best, if not the best, offensive years for the Vikings in team history. • The Vikings’ .322 team batting average was the third highest in school history. • Augustana’s 412 runs scored were second most in team history. • The Vikings’ 562 hits were also second most in school history. • Augustana’s 103 doubles were the only the third team they have had recorded more than 100 in a single season. • The Vikings tied the school record with 19 triples, set back in 1994. • Augustana had 360 RBI’s in 2013, second most in school history. • The Vikings stole 112 bases, second most in team history.

The coaches • Tim Huber is in his sixth season at Augustana in 2014. • Huber owns a career record of 165-111 and has led the team to five straight winning seasons, including fourstraight seasons with 30 or more wins. • Huber owns a career record of 101-56 in conference games. • Huber passed Ken Kessinger on the all-time wins list at Augustana last year. • In 20 seasons, Kessinger compiled a career record of 153-236. • He now ranks second at Augustana in career wins and is 18 wins shy of the all-time wins leader Scott Timmer who compiled a career record of 183-237 in 11 seasons. • Huber played collegiately for Minnesota State (1997-2001) where he was an outfielder and a two-time AllNCC selection. • Huber is assisted by former Division II catcher Bryan Nikkel, former semi-pro infielder Mark Laschanzky and former Vikings Brandon Hunt, Casey Jacobson, Zach Weinandt, and Juan Thomas. • Thomas was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 10th round of the 1991 Amateur Draft and hit .272 with 303 home runs in 14 minor league seasons. In the pros • Augustana has one former players currently active on professional rosters. • Jordan Milbrath was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 35th round of the 2013 MLB First-Year Player Draft. • Milbrath was assigned to the AZL Indians of the Arizona Rookie League in the spring of 2013. • Milbrath will participate in spring training with the Cleveland Indians organization this upcoming season. • The Vikings have had 15 players sign professional contracts in their history.
