Barb & Brinson Venable June 2011 Our spotlight this month centers on the lovely couple Brinson and Barbara Venable. Brinson and Barbara have been attending Herrin Church of Christ for ten and half years. They are the proud parents of five children and a wonderful son -in-law, Josh. Courtney, Kaley, Alyssa, Dalton, and Kennedy range from the ages of eleven to twenty-five. Family has always been a major value in the lives of Brinson and Barb, even as they were growing up, and is now a part of what makes them wonderful parents. They delight in the fact that their grown kids still want to hang out on a Friday night to play games and to be a family. Brinson was born in Carbondale on May 3, 1957. He grew up with one brother and one sister. Brinson attended Carterville High school and was very active in softball organizing his own softball league after he finished high school. Brinson is what we call a jack-of-alltrades. He earned his degree in social studies and taught at Thompsonville for two years. He also taught alternative classes at John A Logan for six years, and he worked at a barbeque restaurant owned by his family.
Highlights at a Glance Both were born and raised in Southern Illinois Brinson works at for Williamson County Barb is a special education teacher. They love spending time with family.
Brinson now works as a tax collector at the treasurer’s office for Williamson County. He has served in this position for twenty-two years. Although his job keeps him busy, and he may have put the softball glove on the shelf, he is still quite active and loves being a grandpa. Brinson’s favorite verse is Romans 8:28. He likes the older hymns because they remind him of his grandparents. Each time he hears them today he still pictures his grandmother standing beside him singing. Barb was born in Carbondale on December 16, 1964. She grew up in a very close-knit family with four sisters and one brother. She was very close to her parents who have gone to be with the Lord. The highlight of her summer this year is taking a trip to California with her sisters to attend her nephews wedding. Barb attended Carterville High School. She earned her teaching degree at SIUC. When Barb was a sophomore she volunteered to help with the Special Olympics and met two partipants named Tom and Jerry. Barb watched as they participated, and she saw the happiness they displayed in everything they did. That’s when Barb decided she wanted to be a Special Education Teacher. She has taught Special Education for twenty-five years in Herrin. To make this story even more thrilling Barb was driving down her street just recently when she discovered Tom and Jerry live on her street. They were outside practicing for The Special Olym-
pics. She stopped to talk to them and their guardian to let them know it was because of them that she became a teacher. Barb’s favorite time of the day is around 4:30 a.m. This is when she spends time exercising, doing devotions on the porch with her morning coffee. Her favorite passage is Psalms 121. Her favorite hymn is is Rock of Ages. Although life has dealt Barb some hard knocks, God has always helped her to weather the storms. God has used her trials to make her a stronger woman, a woman after Gods own heart. Barb and Brinson met on a blind date. Her hair dresser was cutting Brinson’s sister in law’s hair. Well, as the story goes, Brinson’s sister in law decided Brinson needed a good woman, and Barb’s hair dresser decided Barb needed a good man. They were set up on a blind date, and six months later on July 27, 2002, Barbara and Brinson were married. God works miracles even in small town hair salons. We are honored to have the Venables as a part of our church family. We pray for God’s continuous blessings on them and their family. There is no doubt this couple delights in walking in the light of God. Brinson and Barbara, thanks for letting your light shine so brightly. By Rose Loveless
