Note: About Battleship: Battleship is played by 4-person teams with up to 6 teams competing at a time. The goal is to use buckets to fill (sink) your opponents’ boats before being sunk yourself. A time-limit may be imposed. If a time-limit is used teams will be notified at the site. The Intramural Sports Policies govern policies and procedures of all play. You can reference the handbook on our website or IMLeagues. 1.
Eligibility A. Only UW-Madison students and faculty/staff with paid Recreation Membership fees are eligible to participate. B. Each team is responsible for reading the Intramural Sports Handbook policies and eligibility requirements posted on the Recreational Sports web site at http://www.recsports.wisc.edu. C. Players must sign in with the Intramural Sports Supervisor on duty. All players must present their photo from fusion are able to check in using any government issued photo ID. Participants who's WisCard have not activated their IMLeagues account and do not have proper identification will not be allowed to participate without their WISCard. Participants that have a picture on IMLeagues but do not have a photo ID card with them may participate but with the exception that one of the student’s six “Courtesy Passes” will be used. 2. The Game A. Each team consists of 4 players. Co-Rec teams consist of 2 women and 2 men. a. A minimum of three (3) players is needed to compete. Battleship may not be played with less than 3 players per team. B. Players may not fall out of the boat or stand up in the boat. a. Penalty: Disqualification of boat from heat. C. Players may be on their knees during play. D. Teams may splash members of opposing teams. E. Teams will be given 2 buckets and 1 kickboard to be used as they choose. Exception: players may not contact opponents in any way or with any objects. a. Penalty: Disqualification of boat from heat. F. Throughout game play, IM staff will be present in the pool to push or redirect boats together. Actions by the IM staff are designed enhance game play and are completed without regard to requests by participating boat members. G. Once a canoe is sunken, players should move as quickly as possible to the load zone of the pool. Supervisors will assist players with recovering canoes. H. Players may not intentionally push, pull, tip, or contact an opponents’ canoe. a. Penalty: Disqualification of boat from heat. 3. The Equipment A. Canoes, buckets, sponges, and life vests will be provided by Recreational Sports. Life vests are optional. a. Buckets- each teams will be provided 2 buckets with which to fill other boats. Players may not block opponent’s buckets and may not use their own buckets to bail water. b. Canoes- players may not intentionally, pull, push, or tip an opponent’s canoe. Canoes may be paddled with hands only. A canoe will be considered sunk when any part of the gunwale becomes submerged. Any canoe which drops below 4 passengers will be disqualified. c. Sponges/bowls/Frisbees- each team will be provided 2 of these items. These items may be used for bailing water. B. The ratio of buckets to sponges, etc. may be altered by the tournament director. C. Players may alternate between bucket and sponges, etc. during a match. D. Jewelry is strictly prohibited.

E. Swimwear must be worn at all times. Teams may wear t-shirts and shorts over swimwear as long as it isn’t cotton based. F. Teams may wear goggles for eye protection. G. Personal flotation devices will be available for participants if they choose to utilize them. 4. The Court B. The size of the court may be reduced to encourage boat activity. Teams may be disqualified for remaining inactive. Splashing is permitted. *All other pool rules apply to this event*
