Crude Production: Continues to rise with better horizontal drilling and fracking. US output is now at 7.06 million barrels daily. That’s 21% higher than February 2012. MLP: Kinder Morgan and its peers are again in the government crosshairs. Corporate income tax exempt MLP’s are estimated to cost the US over $5.4B in the four years ending 2015.
FDIC: Released its 2nd annual survey of Unbanked & Underbanked Households showing that 8.2% of households have no bank relations and 20.1% are underbanked. This may continue to slow recovery in the United States. Loans & Deposits: Since the financial crisis, large domestic banks (JP, Citi, Wells) are lending less than ever. The chart below shows the trending decline in their loan/deposit ratios and the increase in core deposits (nearing $5 trillion).
New Zealand: Reserve Bank Governor admonished on the strength of the Kiwi and its negative impact. The Kiwi has appreciated 45% since 2008 relative to the USD. Japan: Last week’s comments by Abe were all talk, no action. Yen has not moved.
