National Broiler Market-At-A-Glance Whole broiler/fryer prices are steady to firm. Offerings of all sizes are light to moderate. Retail and food service demand is mostly moderate to good. Floor stocks are light to adequate for trade needs. Market activity is moderate and noted as less aggressive entering the weekend. In the parts structure, wings continue most firm, and all other items are mostly steady to firm. Supplies of all parts are light to moderate especially where exports are a factor. Market activity is mostly moderate. In production areas, live supplies are moderate at mostly desirable weights.

US/Canadian Live Poultry Slaughtered Under Inspection Week Ending Mar 16, 2019 (Preliminary)

Broiler Hatchery Broiler-Type Eggs Set in the United States Up 2 Percent Hatcheries in the United States weekly program set 232 million eggs in incubators during the week ending March 16, 2019, up 2 percent from a year ago. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week in the United States was 81.4 percent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier. Broiler-Type Chicks Placed in the United States Up 2 Percent Broiler growers in the United States weekly program placed 186 million chicks for meat production during the week ending March 16, 2019, up 2 percent from a year ago. Cumulative placements from the week ending January 5, 2019 through March 16, 2019 for the United States were 2.02 billion. Cumulative placements were up 1 percent from the same period a year earlier. Weekly Fryers Available For Marketing Based on the preliminary chick placements, the number of fryers available for marketing during the week ending 27-Apr-19 is estimated at 164.1 million head. This compares to 163.0 million head the previous week and to 161.8 million head the same week a year ago, when the slaughter was 159.4 million head and the national weighted average price was 106.13 cents per pound.
