Ducting Systems

Ducting HDPE duct is available in solid wall, twin wall smooth bore and single wall corrugated profiles. The lightweight, flexible duct copes with trench undulations and high impact resistance minimises special preparation of beds and eliminates the need for special surrounds in most instances.

Motorway Communication

The duct has push fit joints for ease of installation and HDPE flexibility minimises the need for special bends. Duct is colour coded to end user requirements and can be printed to individual requirements.

The covers are supplied with galvanised steel frames. The standard colour is black, with a non-slip surface. As standard, Keyline stock covers and frames badged ‘Traffic Signal’ or ‘Street Lighting’ which come with a locking facility included.

Power Duct Product overview Emtelle UK have developed a comprehensive range of Power Duct systems and accessories designed to meet performance requirement for underground power cables. Our duct meets the industry standard EATS 12-24 revision 2. Our systems include:

Features and Benefits: The

ability to withstand compression forces from carriageway loading at elevated temperatures

Ease

of installation with integral jointing system, making the product simple to install, therefore ensuring system is installed correctly without fail

Class

1 Solid Wall PVC-U Duct System guaranteeing 450N compression performance at operating temperatures up to 75°C

Ease

of cable placement, with low friction inner surface bespoke long radii bends to meet the requirements of the latest generation cables. This reduces whole system costs as longer cabling distances can be achieved, resulting in reduction in expensive joints. Internal chamfer on all spigot ends of ducts ensures no damage during cable placement, which in turn improves cable lifespan

PE itself is light and flexible but maintains its durability. With a comprehensive size range up to 250mm, the main advantage of this duct over PVC is the secure jointing methods. There are two types of jointing methods: Butt-fused

Electrofusion.

These methods allow the duct to be jointed securely in a continuous length which can allow new installation methods to be used including moleploughing, direction drilling or no dig (shallow depth).

Precast Cable Trough Ducting Systems

Precast Cable Trough Ducting Systems Trough table 1: 1000 to 1250 width

We offer a specialist range of precast reinforced concrete cable troughs and ducting systems used to house and protect most types of services, including power and communication cables and pipes for gas, water and chemicals. Access troughs and ducts can be buried underground, located above, or flush with surface levels to provide protection against accidental or malicious damage and to offer easy access for maintenance and repair. Three types of flush fitting lids are supplied in either reinforced precast concrete, GRP composite, or steel tray. All are designed and tested for loading group class to BS EN 124.

Reference (width x depth x length)

1250 x 1250 x 1000

Typical duct applications include; rail and highway infrastructure; power stations; gas, oil and chemical installations; industrial, commercial and domestic developments; docks and harbours; water and sewage treatment plants.

1250 x 1000 x 1000

Benefits 1250 x 750 x 1000

Compared with the alternatives of direct burying of cables and pipes or overhead suspension, concrete trough has a number of advantages: Applicable

to power and telecom cables in addition to pipes for liquids and gases

Chemically

1000 x 1000 x 1000

resistant concrete

Services

buried at depth are unexposed to weather changes (i.e. freezing or overheating)

High

strength load bearing units

Easy

access for cable repair, jointing or new cable additions

1000 x 750 x 1000

Whole

life costing of precast concrete is lower than other forms of ducting construction

Non We

conductive to electricity

can supply specialist units moulded to your requirements.

Design features The troughs, ducts and lids are designed and tested for load classes A15, B125, C250 and D400. For loadings E600 and F900, duct systems are designed, tested and manufactured specific to order.

Unit Handling Guide

F E D

1. All units are provided with ¾ No. threaded lifting sockets to be used in conjunction with threaded lifting eyes. All lifting positions must be used. 2. The chain angle should not be less than 60 degrees to the horizontal. Chain lengths will vary depending on type and size of unit. 3. The weights of the trough units specified in trough Table 1 and 2.

C

4. Units may be stacked. The first unit should be placed on two timber bearers on even and firm ground. Subsequent units placed on top should be separated with two timber bearers. The maximum height the units should be stacked is 1.8m unless instructed by the Site Engineer.

Precast Cable Trough Ducting Systems

HDPE and GRP Troughing

Installation Guide

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) and GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester Resin)

Notes 1. The details shown are for guidance only and should be suitably reviewed with regard to actual ground conditions and applied loading. 2. A Class 1 mortar bed (min 25mm thickness) may be provided between trough and concrete / stone bedding to aid alignment. 3. Where troughs are laid to provide a sealed unit or where the haunching serves to retain water, the formation of a sump may be necessary. 4. Where units are to be sealed a proprietory sealant may be used e.g. polyurethane sealant. 5. Transitions in horizontal and vertical alignment can be achieved by Tee and Angled units. Various sizes and configurations are available. When using cast in-situ infill sections, it is advised that the structural integrity of the units be checked, especially in trafficked areas. 6. In trafficked locations, to minimise the risk of movement, lids should be seated on a minimum thickness of 2mm rubber bearing strip to reduce noise and vibration effects.

7. Parallel lengths of troughs should not be installed immediately adjacent to each other. However, subject to actual loading conditions, this may be acceptable. 8. Where lids are subject to frequent slewing by commercial vehicles the lids may require fixing in position with an epoxy mortar. Installation procedure 1. Prepare formation to required level and lay granular / concrete base. 2. Position trough to required line and level. 3. Position adjacent trough and where required apply polyurethane sealant between units. 4. Place stone / concrete haunching to sides of trough as installation proceeds. 5. Continue installation procedure to form required length of ducting. 6. Carefully place suitable backfill material around trough to re-form required finished levels. 7. Install adjacent construction. 8. Install services into ducting.

Finished permanent level to be 3mm above lid level

Although developed for use alongside rail tracks, GRP & HDPE troughs can be used for many different applications such as power stations.

BS EN 12613:2009 is a European-wide directive that specifies the warning characteristics for all underground warning devices. This scope covers electric cables and pipelines containing pressurised or non-pressurised fluids.

Plastic pipes, fibre optic cables and unenergised cables cannot be located using standard cable avoidance tools. A detectable underground warning tape allows traceability of the buried service, while warning of the danger beneath to future rogue excavators.

With a traceable stainless steel wire laminated between a printed underground warning tape and plastic mesh, underground services can be located using a CAT and Genny while providing a clearly visible warning of the danger below.

Detectable Warning Tape

Detectable Mesh

Wavelay is a detectable warning tape with embedded steel tracer wires that can be located using standard cable and pipe locators used with non-metallic pipes and un-energised cables. As a backup, the highly-visible, printed tape will also show within the spoil during any subsequent excavation.

TERRAM Detectamesh is a high-strength, rot-resistant polypropylene mesh incorporating a traceable stainless steel wire or aluminium foil, and overprinted with a warning message in black.

Wavelay is laid at half depth in the trench above a pipe or a cable. design allows wires to elongate by over 25% before breaking
